Cuts v5.11.0, following the sequence in the release target of the Makefile.

  • 8d5e274 dates the HISTORY.md heading — ### v5.11.0 (Unreleased) → ### v5.11.0 (September 23, 2026), matching 4f06512 from the v5.10.0 release.
  • 3c5cbd1 is make release output: bump_version --tag-prefix=v minor version/version.go, taking const Version from 5.10.0 to 5.11.0.

A minor bump is right for this release: nothing is removed or re-signatured, the additions are Engine.SetBuckets, HistogramBuckets.SetKey/SetUnprefixed/Lookup and prometheus.DefaultBuckets, and the module path stays /v5. The prometheus exposition changes are breaking for scrapers — HISTORY.md carries the upgrade notes.

Contents of the release: #232 (the exposition fixes) and #233 (the review fixes #232 merged without).

Important

Merge this with a merge commit — not squash or rebase.

The v5.11.0 tag is already on the remote, pointing at 3c5cbd1. A direct push of these two commits to main was rejected by the branch ruleset after the tag had gone up, so the tag currently sits off-branch. Merging normally makes 3c5cbd1 reachable from main and the tag correct. Squash or rebase would rewrite it into a new SHA and leave the published tag dangling, which then needs deleting and re-cutting — awkward once proxy.golang.org has served the version.

After merge: publish the drafted v5.11.0 release notes.
