Summary

Windows marked hidden_on_card (informational rows such as a spend or balance line that the provider also shows as a section) were already skipped by the tray card, but the provider Settings pane still drew them:

  • UsageSection.tsx rendered a stray meter for them (for example "Spend 100% left").
  • commands/usage_items.rs built a "Visible usage items" toggle for them, which duplicated the section row's toggle.

Both now skip card-hidden windows on primary, secondary, model-specific, tertiary, and extra windows. This is shared by the v0.74 provider lanes (Exa, Cosmic, X API, Tavily), which use RateWindow::informational(..).hidden_on_card() for meterless values, matching upstream's no-bar cards.

Tests

  • New Rust test usage_item_descriptors_skip_card_hidden_windows (commands/tests.rs).
  • New Vitest case "omits card-hidden windows" in UsageSection.test.tsx.

Commands run (tree pushed as b459474)

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check: pass
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml: 4138 passed, 1 ignored
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: pass
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml: pass
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: pass
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml: 707 passed
  • pnpm exec tsc --noEmit, pnpm run build: pass

Review follow-up (b459474b5)

  • Card-hidden window IDs (primary, secondary, model-specific, tertiary, extras) are added to the seen set before saved-ID placeholders, so a saved hidden window is not restored as an unavailable toggle. Windows missing from the snapshot keep their placeholder. usage_item_descriptors_skip_card_hidden_windows covers saved IDs.
  • Frontend: 1106 Vitest tests passed; tsc and pnpm run build pass.

UI proof

Recaptured with a saved hidden ID (W:/mac-parity/report/settings-hidden-on-card/proof-bfe272700/COMPARISON.md): Cosmic unlimited plan with metric:primary saved as hidden. Before (e520dd5), Visible usage items listed Used, Allowance, and a stray "Session (unavailable)" toggle; after (Cosmic bfe2727, which carries this commit), it lists Used and Allowance only.
Settings capture from a fresh proof build of the Exa lane, which carries this commit: the Usage block shows "Spend: $45.67" with no meter, and "Visible usage items" lists Spend once. Screenshots are attached to the provider PRs.

Summary by CodeRabbit

📝 Walkthrough

Usage item descriptors and the settings usage section now omit quota windows marked hidden_on_card. Tests cover descriptor output and the settings display, including visible metrics and detail rows.

Changes: Usage window visibility

Layer / File(s) Summary
Usage descriptor filtering
apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/usage_items.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/tests.rs
Descriptors omit card-hidden primary, optional, and extra rate windows. A test checks the emitted descriptors and confirms that the detail section and visible secondary metric remain.
Settings usage filtering
apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/providers/sections/UsageSection.tsx, apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/providers/sections/UsageSection.test.tsx
The section excludes card-hidden windows from its bar checks and rendered metric rows. A test checks that the hidden session window is omitted while an additional budget window remains visible.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to b0d17

Some providers may still show a “Visible usage items” toggle with no corresponding usage row when a hidden window has a saved visibility setting. This is a bounded settings issue, so the change is mergeable with a follow-up fix.

A window hidden on the card is no longer re-added as an unavailable visibility toggle from saved settings. Windows missing from the snapshot keep their placeholder.
