Pins all four jobs (check, test, build, release). No ubuntu-latest is left in either workflow, and CI is green on ubuntu-26.04 at this head: Check, Build, and the six Lua versions in the test matrix.
release.yml only runs on a tag push, so this PR's CI can't exercise it. Its steps up to make build are the same as the Build job, which passed here. The one step not covered is softprops/action-gh-release@v1. It's a JS action, so the image change shouldn't matter, but the first tag cut after this merges is its first real run.

GitHub moves the
ubuntu-latestlabel to the Ubuntu 26 image between 2026-10-19 and 2026-11-19. This pins every job toubuntu-26.04, the current LTS, so the runner image is explicit and the CI on this PR shows now whether anything breaks on the new image instead of during the rollout.
