Assessment batch had no audio input column. OpenAI and Anthropic silently dropped video cells, so a saved config could name a column the provider never received. Evidence

There is no migration and no data is deleted, so reverting the code restores the mixed parsing and the old validation behaviour.
Blast Radius: Moderate
mixed bindings: Saved RUN input bindings with type="mixed", if any exist, will stop parsing.
Existing video configs: A saved config with a video column on OpenAI or Anthropic will fail validation on its next save.
Default pre-filter provider:topic_relevance defaults to openai. A Google assessment config with an audio or video column will therefore be rejected unless its pre-filter provider is also Google.
Scope: The change is limited to the assessment module. Other modules are not touched.

… columns (#1316)
Audio columns go to Google AI Studio and GCP as Gemini fileData. A config whose assessment or pre-filter provider is OpenAI or Anthropic is rejected at save when input_schema declares an audio or video column. The unused mixed attachment type is removed.

Walkthrough
Assessment input schemas now support audio columns and validate media types against assessment and pre-filter providers. Audio uses URL format. Gemini batch requests include audio parts, while attachment routing uses declared types.
The attachment model removes the mixed type and its mapping fields. Configuration and assessment startup reject unsupported audio or video columns for OpenAI and Anthropic providers. Tests and documentation cover provider compatibility.
Audio intake and attachment parts backend/app/services/assessment/api/submission.py, backend/app/services/assessment/api/batch.py, backend/app/services/assessment/utils/attachments.py, backend/app/tests/assessment/test_api_submission.py, backend/app/tests/assessment/test_batch.py
Audio extensions are classified, and audio columns use URL validation. Gemini creates audio parts with an inferred MIME type or the audio/mp3 default. OpenAI and Anthropic omit audio parts.
Declared-type batch and pre-filter routing backend/app/crud/assessment/batch.py, backend/app/services/assessment/prefilter/topic_relevance.py, backend/app/tests/assessment/test_batch.py
Batch builders and topic-relevance requests use each attachment’s declared type. Gemini video detection also checks the declared type. Tests remove mixed-type routing cases and cover declared-type behavior.
Mergeable with awareness of two narrow limitations: conflicting URLs in one audio cell can pass validation, and retrying an older mixed-attachment assessment returns an unhelpful error. Both have localized fixes; ordinary supported audio inputs are unaffected by these findings.

Explanation
Active direct issue #1316 has three coding requirements. AttachmentColumnType includes audio. build_gemini_attachment_parts emits Gemini fileData for audio and derives MIME types from URL extensions. rewrite_gcs_attachment_urls processes all declared attachments, including audio. AssessmentConfigBlob._validate_column_types_supported rejects audio and video for OpenAI and Anthropic assessment and topic-relevance providers. AssessmentAttachment no longer accepts mixed or its per-row routing fields. The changed tests cover provider validation, audio submission validation, Gemini audio parts, skipped unsupported media, and mixed removal.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed files support issue #1316. The runtime guard in start_assessment prevents unsupported audio and video attachments from reaching OpenAI and Anthropic. Attachment routing, URL extension detection, GCS URL rewriting, tests, and documentation support audio handling or mixed-type removal. No changed area lacks a demonstrated connection to the linked issue.

Assert the audio fileUri in the Google JSONL test.
test_google_jsonl_carries_audio_part checks only the audio part's mimeType. The helper-level test asserts fileUri, but this caller-level test does not. A change that drops or alters fileUri in the build_google_jsonl path would still pass this test.

…dd m4a (#1316)
Audio input columns must be url-format at config save, like video. A RUN start with an audio or video attachment on an OpenAI or Anthropic config is a 422 instead of silently dropping the media. .m4a is accepted as audio/m4a.
…t extension map (#1316)
Use raw strings for the one-line column-type constants, derive ATTACHMENT_COLUMN_TYPES from the Literal, simplify the provider-support validator, and resolve a URL's attachment type from the MIME maps instead of a second extension list in submission.

Return a 422 when a stored mixed attachment cannot be parsed on retry.
_build_retry_request rebuilds each stored attachment with AssessmentAttachment.model_validate. The mixed type was removed from AssessmentAttachment.type, so a stored attachment with type: "mixed" raises a ValidationError. Nothing in the call path catches it. The generic exception handler then returns HTTP 500 with the raw Pydantic message, and the caller gets no actionable response. Retry fails only for stored attachments whose type is mixed.
Wrap the attachment parse and raise a 422 that tells the user to create a new assessment. The same helper serves retry_assessment and retry_assessment_run, so one change covers both.

Dispatch google-gcp assessment RUNs in submit_assessment_batch.
submit_assessment_batch has no branch for google-gcp. Every GCP assessment RUN reaches the final else and raises Unsupported provider for assessment batches, so the run fails at submission, with or without audio columns. The API path in services/assessment/api/batch.py already handles GOOGLE_GCP with GoogleGCPBatchProvider. Add an equivalent branch here.
This defect predates the PR. The dispatch logic is unchanged from the merge base.

Check each URL in a multi-URL attachment cell.
The type check passes the whole cell to attachment_type_from_url, which reads only the path of the cell string. The attachment builder splits the cell on commas and newlines and assigns each URL its own MIME type. In an audio column, https://x/a.mp4,https://x/b.wav passes validation because only the final .wav is seen. The MP4 is then sent with an audio/mp3 MIME type. Validate each split URL instead. The same whole-cell check also governs video and image columns.
