Summary

UpgradePacketType.CellonItem was already defined and UpgradePacket already carried CellonInventoryType / CellonSlot, but no operation claimed the kind, so up_gr 3 did nothing: the client's Add Option button closed nothing and charged nothing. This adds CellonOperation.

In the client the window is reached from an accessory NPC (dialog 10, shop menu 5): Use Shop, then the second tab ("add option") sends n_run 10, the existing handler answers wopen 3, and the player drops an accessory and a cellon in and presses Add Option, which sends up_gr 3.

  • the cellon carries its tier in Item.EffectValue, now parsed from the third DATA value of upgrade materials (cellons 1017-1026 hold 1-10 there; every other upgrade material holds 0)
  • the accessory caps the tier (MaxCellonLvl) and the number of options (MaxCellon)
  • an attempt rolls one option type out of everything the tier offers; landing on a type the accessory already carries is the failure, so the odds fall as it fills up
  • the cellon (one from the stack) and the gold are taken either way
  • "You have successfully added an option." on success, "The Cellon has disappeared because you failed to add options." on failure
  • a cellon above the accessory's level is refused with "The Cellon's level is higher than that of the accessory.", a full accessory with "You cannot add any more options.", nothing charged
  • only an upgrade material with a tier is accepted as the cellon

Every tier's price (700 to 134 900) is the one the client shows in the window, and every option range matches the client's own option description for that tier (this corrected tier 3 HP to 220-300 and tier 6 critical damage reduction to 1-10%).

Rolled options are persisted through IDao<EquipmentOptionDto, Guid>. No schema change: the EquipmentOption table and its FK already exist.

Not in scope

The options are stored but not yet applied to a character's stats, and the server sends no e_info for accessories, so the options don't show in the item tooltip yet. Both are follow-ups (noted under "Not verifiable yet" in the manual test plan).

Verification

Cloud client on Chicken Farm Path with the accessory NPC placed next to the character; necklace 331 (1 option, tier 2), three level-1 cellons and one level-3 cellon, 100 000 gold. Each outcome was checked in the database as well as on screen.

Before (master) After (branch)
master: Add Option + Confirm does nothing; 100,000 gold and 3 cellons stay
master: Add Option + Confirm does nothing; 100,000 gold and 3 cellons stay
branch: You have successfully added an option.; 99,300 gold, 2 cellons left

Branch: the client's confirmation before the attempt (700 gold for a level 1 cellon)

Branch: an accessory already holding its maximum options is refused, nothing charged

Branch: an accessory already holding its maximum options is refused, nothing charged

Branch: a level 3 cellon on a level 2 accessory is refused, nothing charged

Branch: a level 3 cellon on a level 2 accessory is refused, nothing charged

Run Gold Cellons left EquipmentOption rows
master, Add Option + Confirm 100 000 3 0 (nothing happens)
branch, Add Option + Confirm 99 300 2 1 (level 1, MP recovery 11)
branch, accessory already holding its one option 100 000 3 1 (unchanged)
branch, level-3 cellon on a tier-2 accessory 100 000 1 0

CellonOperationTests (6 cases: success, rolling a type already present, one cellon from a stack, tier too high, full accessory, non-cellon material) and the parser tests pass; the full suite passes apart from EveryDeclaredEffectIsNamed, which fails on master too.

Manual checks still worth a pass in a real client (from documentation/manual-test-plan.md, "Cellon options on accessories"): the failure message when the roll lands on a type the accessory already has, and the same flow in a non-English client.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Accessories can receive Cellon options, with level-based pricing and checks for compatible levels and available option slots.
    • Applying a Cellon consumes one item and the required gold; success or failure messages report the outcome.
    • Cellon tier information is recognized when loading items.
  • Documentation
    • Added a manual test plan for applying Cellons. It notes that options are stored but do not yet affect accessory stats or appear in accessory details.

Walkthrough

Adds cellon tier parsing and a CellonOperation for applying options to eligible jewelry. The operation validates tiers and capacity, rolls and persists options, consumes cellons, charges gold, and refreshes inventory pockets. Tests and manual checks cover operation outcomes and current display and stat limitations.

Changes

Cellon upgrade flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Cellon and jewel parsing
src/NosCore.Parser/Parsers/ItemParser.cs, test/NosCore.Parser.Tests/ItemParserTests.cs
Upgrade items now read their effect value from DATA. Tests verify cellon tiers, other upgrade materials, and jewel capacity values.
Cellon option application
src/NosCore.GameObject/Services/UpgradeService/UpgradeOperation.cs, src/NosCore.GameObject/Services/UpgradeService/CellonOperation.cs
UpgradeOperation adds a bounded random roll helper. CellonOperation validates tiers and capacity, selects unused options, rolls values, persists successful options, consumes the cellon, charges gold, and refreshes both inventory pockets.
Cellon operation validation
test/NosCore.GameObject.Tests/Services/UpgradeService/CellonOperationTests.cs, documentation/manual-test-plan.md
Automated tests cover successful and failed rolls, invalid tiers, full jewels, item consumption, gold, persistence, and response packets. The manual plan covers the shop flow and notes that stored options are not sent in accessory e_info or applied to stats.

Explanation

The title "feat: add cellon options to accessories (#815)" matches the main change. The PR adds a CellonOperation for the up_gr 3 flow, parses cellon tier from upgrade material DATA, enforces tier and option-count limits, and persists rolled options on accessories. The title is short, specific, and uses a conventional commit prefix. It does not mention that options are not yet applied to stats, but that detail is not required for the title.

Move the option-strength table out of NosCore.GameObject.

CLAUDE.md explicitly prohibits stat curves in NosCore.GameObject. OptionsByCellonLevel is a Cellon-tier stat-strength table. Move it to the layer that owns stat curves, then have CellonOperation consume it.

Existing upgrade tables do not cancel this rule. The analogous tables inspected contain upgrade costs, material counts, success rates, or rarity bands rather than Cellon stat-strength values.

The rule applies, but moving the table to NosCore.Algorithm means a release of that package and then a version bump here. That trade-off is for the PR author to decide; the values themselves match the client's option descriptions for every tier.

@erwan-joly Understood. The concern is table ownership, not the option values. Moving the table requires a NosCore.Algorithm release and a consumer version bump, so I’ll leave that trade-off to the PR author. The architecture concern remains open; no change was confirmed.

Handle failed option persistence before finalizing the Cellon upgrade.

TryInsertOrUpdateAsync(rolled) is the single-DTO overload, which returns the DTO rather than bool. The bound DAO returns default when persistence fails, and CellonOperation ignores that result. The base workflow has already incremented jewel.Cellon, consumed the Cellon, and removed gold before this call. A failed save can therefore consume the payment and leave the jewel without its EquipmentOption row. The workflow then sends the normal result packets, so the “no result packets” consequence does not apply to the bound DAO.

Make option persistence, jewel mutation, Cellon consumption, and gold removal atomic, or restore all prior changes when the DAO returns default.

Update the Cellon upgrade flow around TryInsertOrUpdateAsync so it checks the
returned DTO for default before finalizing the upgrade. Ensure a failed
persistence either rolls back the option, jewel.Cellon, Cellon consumption, and
gold removal together, or restores all prior changes, and do not report the
upgrade as successful on failure.

Traced: TryInsertOrUpdateAsync returns default only when the database write throws. The other upgrade operations in the same skeleton have the same exposure: gold and materials go before their state reaches the database, at save time. Making this one operation atomic would mean adding a transaction or compensation path that none of its siblings has. This is left for the PR author to decide rather than changed here.

@erwan-joly Understood. A shared transaction or compensation path is broader than this Cellon change. I’ll leave that scope decision to the PR author.

The failure risk remains: if the DAO returns default, this flow ignores the failed write and reports success after consuming the Cellon and gold. This finding remains unresolved, not fixed.

Would you like me to open a follow-up issue for persistence-failure handling across the upgrade operations?

Cellons add a permanent stat option to jewelry instead of raising an
upgrade level. UpgradePacketType.CellonItem was already defined and the
packet already carried the cellon slot, but no operation claimed the kind
so up_gr with type 3 did nothing.

The cellon carries its tier in Item.EffectValue; the jewel caps how many
options it holds (Item.MaxCellon) and how strong they may be
(Item.MaxCellonLvl). Success odds fall as the jewel fills, and the cellon
is consumed either way. A jewel already holding every option its tier
offers fails outright rather than reporting a success that adds nothing.

Rolled options are persisted through IDao<EquipmentOptionDto, Guid>. They
are not yet applied to a character's stats: EquipmentStats.Hp/Mp exist but
nothing consumes them, so that wiring stays a follow-up.

Adds a protected Roll helper on UpgradeOperation for operations that need
more than the skeleton's single success check.

ImportEffectValue maps DATA by ItemType and had no case for
ItemType.Upgrade, so cellons (vnum 1017-1026) parsed with EffectValue 0.
CellonOperation reads that value as the option tier and rejects anything
at or below zero, so no cellon could ever be applied.

Item.dat carries the tier in the third DATA value, matching vnum - 1016
across all ten cellons. Every other upgrade material has an all-zero DATA
row, so reading it there leaves them at 0 as before.

An attempt now rolls one option type out of everything the cellon's tier
offers and fails when the jewel already carries that type, so the odds fall
as the jewel fills instead of following a separate success table.

- a cellon above the accessory's option level and a full accessory are
refused with the client's own messages before anything is charged
- a success says "You have successfully added an option."
- only an upgrade material with a tier is taken as a cellon
- the cellon slot is refreshed with what is left of the stack
- tier 3 HP and tier 6 critical damage ranges match the client's option
descriptions; every tier's price matches the price the client shows

a Cellon above the accessory’s option level and an accessory at its maximum
options. In addition to confirming that nothing is charged, assert that the
Cellon stack remains unchanged and the Cellon is still available after each
rejected attempt.
- Around line 397-398: Update the Cellon manual-test step to repeatedly attempt
adding options to one accessory until the duplicate-option failure occurs, then
verify the failure message and that the attempt consumes the listed gold price
and one Cellon. If no reliable setup can trigger this outcome, document under
“Not verifiable yet” that manual verification is unavailable and this path is
covered only by unit tests.
