Refs #884, phase 1. Phases 2–3 (payment methods by network, the trade hint) follow, so the issue stays open. Daemon side: MostroP2P/mostro#1083 (docs/PRICE_PROVIDERS.md §11.8); wire side: MostroP2P/protocol#89.

What changes and why

Stablecoins become order currencies the app knows: USDT, USDC and DOC join the catalogue pegged to USD, drawn with a neutral coin instead of a flag, grouped under a "Stablecoins" header in the three pickers, and allowed as the default currency. A node that does not quote a coin refuses every market order in it (§11.8), so for a stablecoin the create-order screen offers Market only when the node's rates event quotes the coin, and locks to Fixed otherwise. A fiat keeps failing open, as today (#337).

  • Design guide first: new rule DS-TYP-9 — a stablecoin has no flag and gets no emoji; its mark is a coin CurrencyMark paints, carrying its peg's sign, never an issuer logo (trademark) and never a glyph.
  • Catalogue: assets/data/fiat.json gains the three coins with peg: "USD"; one parser (parseFiatCatalogue) for both loaders. EURC is left out until a node quotes it.
  • One mark widget (lib/shared/widgets/currency_mark.dart) replaces the eight Text(flag) sites.
  • Default currency: validate_fiat_code accepts 3 to 5 upper-case ASCII letters.
  • Market lock: Rust now tells "no rates event" from "event without the code" (ExchangeRateLookup), which fetch_exchange_rate used to merge into None.

Affected flow

  • Create order (/order/add): currency picker, CurrencyInlineSelector/CurrencyRowSelector, PriceSection Market|Fixed (lib/features/order/widgets/{currency_section,price_section}.dart, providers/exchange_rate_provider.dart).
  • Order book cards, order filter dialog, My order, node cards (Settings selector and first-run node choice): the currency chip's mark.
  • Settings → default currency (currency_selector_dialog.dart).
  • Bridge: rust/src/api/settings.rs (validate_fiat_code), rust/src/api/nostr.rs (lookup_exchange_rate), rust/src/api/types.rs (ExchangeRateLookup); rust/src/mostro/rates.rs (cached_lookup).

Blast radius

  • Persisted: default_fiat_code may now hold a 4–5 letter code. No migration; an older build reading it shows it without a mark.
  • Bindings regenerated (lib/src/rust/, rust/src/frb_generated.rs) in the same commit as the API change; frb-generate.sh --check and check-generated.sh pass.
  • Wire: nothing changes; f is sent as before. A node without the code in fiat_currencies_accepted keeps refusing it.
  • Rates: exchangeRateProvider now derives from exchangeRateLookupProvider, so the range check (Validate market-price orders against the node's sats limits (needs a fiat↔sats rate) #337) and the quick chips read the same value; take_order_screen invalidates the lookup. Fiat behaviour unchanged.
  • Widgets: OrderListItem, OrderBookList and NodeCard lost their flags-map parameters (the mark reads the catalogue through Riverpod); tests that pumped them bare now wrap a ProviderScope (test/support/catalogue_fixtures.dart).
  • Localization: stablecoinsGroupHeader, marketPriceNotQuotedByNode in all seven locales.
  • Automation identifiers: none added or changed.
  • Design guide: DS-TYP-9 added; the DS-SPC-2 / DS-ICO-3 / DS-SHP-1 / DS-CMP-19 / DS-COL-11 debt in the touched classes is closed (OrderCurrencyChip, _CurrencyChip, the node card chip, currency_selector_dialog, order_filter, price_section), and §14 drops the premium-field entry. 11 goldens regenerated. No screen needed a whole-file migration.

Platforms tested

Pending: Linux desktop and Android, by the maintainer (see Manual testing).

Manual testing

Setup

flutter run -d linux from this branch, existing identity, against a node whose fiat_currencies_accepted is empty (or lists USDT) and which does not publish USDT in mostro-rates (any mostrod without #1083 or with the stablecoins provider off).

Steps

  1. Maker: Book → + → tap the currency. Expected: the picker lists the fiats, then a STABLECOINS header with DOC, USDC, USDT, each drawn as a coin with $, not a flag or a box.
  2. Maker: pick USDT. Expected: the Price control shows Market greyed out, Fixed selected, and "This node doesn't quote USDT at market price. Set a fixed amount in sats."
  3. Maker: pick USD again. Expected: Market enabled and selected, the note gone (regression: fiat unchanged).
  4. Maker: USDT, 100, fixed 150000 sats, a payment method, publish. Expected: My order shows the USDT chip with the coin; the Book card shows the same chip; the kind 38383 event carries f = USDT.
  5. Any: Book → filter. Expected: the currency chips, then a STABLECOINS header with the three coins; selecting USDT filters to the order of step 4.
  6. Any: Settings → Currency, choose USDT. Expected: accepted and shown back. (fails on main: refused as an invalid code)
  7. Any: Settings → node selector. Expected: a node that lists USDT shows it as a coin chip; fiat chips keep their flags.
  8. Quit and relaunch the app. Expected: the default currency is still USDT, and the create-order screen opens on it locked to Fixed.

Not covered

A node that quotes USDT (needs mostrod #1083 deployed): the Market branch of the lock is covered by price_section_test.dart only. iOS and macOS. These steps have not yet been run by a person.

Screenshots

Pending (maintainer): the currency picker before/after, the Price section locked, a Book card with a USDT order; light and dark. Rules touched: DS-TYP-8, DS-TYP-9, DS-SPC-2, DS-ICO-3, DS-SHP-1, DS-CMP-19, DS-COL-11.

Automated tests

  • test/shared/utils/fiat_currencies_test.dart: the parser reads peg; the bundled catalogue has the three coins, each pegged to a known fiat, and every fiat has a flag; one fiat.json loader in lib/; picker rows' order and header.
  • test/shared/widgets/currency_mark_test.dart: every peg entry draws a StablecoinCoin and no text (never the flags font); a fiat draws its flag; an unknown code draws nothing; the gap collapses with it.
  • test/features/settings/widgets/currency_selector_dialog_test.dart: grouped list; search keeps or drops the header.
  • test/features/order/widgets/price_section_test.dart: NotQuoted locks Market and moves to Fixed; NoRates leaves Market; a fiat is never locked.
  • flag_font_test.dart still holds for every flag (entries without one are skipped).
  • Rust: fiat_code_accepts_stablecoin_codes; the_lookup_tells_no_table_from_a_table_without_the_code.

flutter test: +3118 ~4: All tests passed! · cargo test: 1466 passed, 0 failed · flutter analyze: No issues found · dart tool/design_check.dart: no breaks in the 17 files touched.

Checklist

  • cd rust && cargo fmt --check && cargo clippy -- -D warnings && cargo test pass locally — clippy and tests pass; fmt --check reports only drift already on main (bond.rs, disputes.rs, settings.rs:604, rates.rs:218), none in this diff's hunks
  • dart format --set-exit-if-changed ., flutter analyze and flutter test pass locally — analyze and test pass; six touched files are not formatted under Dart 3.11.5, as on main (formatter drift), left alone to keep the diff readable
  • Changed rust/src/api/ or an .arb: regenerated code committed in the same commit
  • New or changed user-facing text: every locale updated, no hardcoded strings
  • Changed an automation identifier: none changed
  • Protocol or transport change: none
  • Behaviour or contract change: .specify/DESIGN_SYSTEM.md DS-TYP-9
  • Commits are signed
  • I ran the Manual testing steps myself — pending

AI assistance

Written with Claude Code from #884 and mostrod §11.8. Decisions taken for this phase: a neutral painted coin with the peg's sign (no issuer logos), EURC out of the catalogue, codes up to 5 letters. A range order in a locked coin ends with both segments disabled and the lock note shown (the daemon would refuse it either way); not special-cased here. The maintainer runs the manual steps and takes the screenshots.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Currency pickers and filters now group stablecoins separately and show currency marks for fiat and stablecoin entries.
    • Added DOC, USDC, and USDT to the currency catalogue.
    • Stablecoin currency codes are supported in currency selection and order settings.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Market pricing is unavailable for a stablecoin the selected node does not quote; the order switches to Fixed pricing and shows guidance to enter a fixed sats amount. Fiat currencies and nodes without rates remain unaffected.
  • Localization
    • Added translated stablecoin labels and market-pricing guidance in supported languages.

A stablecoin has no flag, and an emoji in its place would fall to the OS
font (a box on Linux and Windows): the mark is a neutral coin painted by
CurrencyMark, never an issuer's logo. Also drops the price_section premium
field from the §14 debt, which the next commits close.
USDT, USDC and DOC join assets/data/fiat.json with the fiat they are
pegged to (peg: USD) and no flag. One parser (parseFiatCatalogue) feeds
both the create-order picker and the Settings default-currency dialog,
which loses its own loader. CurrencyMark replaces every Text(flag) site:
the flag for a fiat, a painted coin carrying the peg's sign for a
stablecoin (DS-TYP-9), nothing for an unknown code. The three pickers
(create order, Settings, order book filter) group the coins under a
Stablecoins header, localized in the seven languages.

The Settings dialog and the filter dialog migrate off AppColors to the
redesign palette as the design check asks for touched code; the currency
chips move to on-scale padding (goldens regenerated).
…oted

validate_fiat_code takes 3 to 5 upper-case ASCII letters, so a stablecoin
code (USDT, EURC) can be the default currency; doc comments stop calling
the code ISO 4217. lookup_exchange_rate returns ExchangeRateLookup, which
tells a node that publishes no rates event (NoRates: fail open as #337)
from an event that lacks the code (NotQuoted: the node refuses a market
order in a stablecoin). fetch_exchange_rate keeps its Option on top of it.
Bindings regenerated.
exchangeRateLookupProvider carries the node's answer; exchangeRateProvider
reads it. For a stablecoin whose lookup is NotQuoted, PriceSection
disables the Market segment, moves the control to Fixed and says why
(marketPriceNotQuotedByNode). A fiat, and a node with no rates event, are
left as today. Closes the price section's own design debt on the way
(icon 14, gap 12, padding 14, radius 8, the premium field's borders).

Walkthrough

The pull request adds stablecoin entries and shared currency marks, groups stablecoins in currency pickers, and introduces rate lookup outcomes that distinguish unquoted currencies from missing rate data. Order creation now locks Market pricing for stablecoins that the selected node does not quote.

Changes

Stablecoin catalogue and marks

Layer / File(s) Summary
Catalogue and shared currency marks
assets/data/fiat.json, lib/shared/utils/fiat_currencies.dart, lib/shared/widgets/currency_mark.dart, lib/shared/widgets/currency_group_header.dart, test/shared/*, test/support/catalogue_fixtures.dart, .specify/DESIGN_SYSTEM.md
The catalogue adds DOC, USDC, and USDT with USD pegs. Shared utilities parse stablecoin pegs and build grouped picker rows. Shared widgets render fiat flags or stablecoin coin marks. Tests cover catalogue parsing and mark rendering.

Rate lookup and pricing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Exchange-rate lookup and Rust bridge
rust/src/api/*, rust/src/mostro/rates.rs, rust/src/frb_generated.rs, lib/src/rust/api/*, lib/src/rust/frb_generated*, lib/features/order/providers/exchange_rate_provider.dart
The Rust and Dart APIs represent NoRates, NotQuoted, and Quoted outcomes. The existing nullable rate provider maps both non-quoted outcomes to null. Fiat-code validation now accepts three to five uppercase letters.
Currency picker and mark integration
lib/features/order/widgets/currency_section.dart, lib/features/settings/widgets/currency_selector_dialog.dart, lib/shared/widgets/order_filter.dart, lib/features/home/**, lib/features/order/screens/*, lib/features/order/widgets/order_detail_cards.dart, lib/features/settings/widgets/node_card.dart, lib/features/walkthrough/screens/node_choice_screen.dart, lib/l10n/*, test/features/**, test/core/flag_font_test.dart
Picker lists now show stablecoins under a group header. Order and node currency chips use shared marks instead of flag strings. Localization and widget tests cover the updated displays and picker behavior.
Market pricing lock
lib/features/order/widgets/price_section.dart, lib/l10n/*, test/features/order/widgets/price_section_test.dart, .specify/DESIGN_SYSTEM.md
When a stablecoin has a rate event but the node does not quote it, the price section switches Market to Fixed, disables Market, and shows a localized notice. Tests cover this case, a node without rate data, and an unquoted fiat currency.

  • MostroP2P/app#884 — The PR adds the catalogue entries, stablecoin marks, grouped picker section, and node-dependent Market lock described there; it does not include the payment-network list or trade hint.
  • MostroP2P/app#893 — The PR changes the Settings currency picker and adds stablecoin grouping, but does not replace it with the create-order picker.
  • MostroP2P/mostro#1081 — The client-side Market lock checks whether the node quotes a stablecoin, but this PR does not implement daemon-side stablecoin pricing or publishing.

P2 Badge Enforce the Market lock when range mode changes

After an unquoted stablecoin has switched the form to Fixed, selecting range mode calls _onRangeChanged(true) in add_order_screen.dart, which sets isMarketPriceProvider back to true. This listener only observes changes to marketLockedCodeProvider, so it does not run again while the same currency remains locked. Market consequently stays selected despite being disabled, and the existing validity and submit checks allow a market-priced range order that the node will reject. Enforce the lock across range-mode transitions and prevent submission of an incompatible range order.

P1 Badge Update the matching currency contracts for stablecoin support

The validator now accepts four- and five-letter currency codes, but specs/004-mostro-p2p-client/contracts/settings.md still describes the setting as ISO 4217, and contracts/orders.md and data-model.md still require valid ISO 4217 order currencies. The only specification change in this commit documents the visual coin mark, not these changed contracts or Market eligibility. Update the matching contracts to describe stablecoin codes and the new eligibility behavior; leaving contradictory contracts violates the repository's explicit requirement to maintain specifications alongside behavior changes.

`isMarketPriceProvider` so it does not change the price mode while range mode is

Block Market submission while the stablecoin lookup is pending.

After a stablecoin is selected, marketLockedCodeProvider returns null until the asynchronous lookup resolves to ExchangeRateLookup_NotQuoted. During that interval, Market remains enabled and _checkValid accepts a valid amount and payment method without a resolved rate. _submit then calls createOrder with amountSats: null, so the node can reject the unquoted Market order before the lock takes effect. This path occurs with range mode disabled.

Track the pending lookup in both the submit button state and _submit.

Update the Market submit-button state and _submit guard to treat a pending

preventing submission until the lookup resolves; preserve existing behavior for
fiat currencies and resolved lookups.

Stop a range order from reaching a state with no enabled price mode.

A stablecoin that the node does not quote locks Market. Range mode locks Fixed. The screen does not guard against having both at once. The range toggle does not check the lock, so the two conditions can occur together. The user can leave range mode to recover, but the range order cannot be completed while the lock is active.

Fix this in two parts:

  • Do not let the lock change the price mode while range mode is on. Keep the range order's price mode consistent with the lock.
  • When the lock activates during range mode, leave range mode through _onRangeChanged(false). Writing isRangeOrderProvider directly skips the controller sync, so the single amount field would keep the stale value.

Do not keep the listener at price_section.dart:112-113 as the only guard. It runs only when the lock changes.

Update the price-mode lock handling around `isMarketPriceProvider` so it does
not change the price mode while range mode is active; if the lock activates
during range mode, exit range mode through `_onRangeChanged(false)` so
controller state stays synchronized. Also guard the range toggle against
entering range mode while the lock is active, rather than relying only on the
lock-change listener.

Add DS-A11Y-4 coverage for CurrencySelectorDialog.

This PR changes the full-screen modal route for CurrencySelectorDialog. DS-A11Y-4 requires a German, 320 dp, 2× text-scale widget test that asserts tester.takeException() is null. The current tests use English at the default size and scale, and do not make this assertion. The order-filter modal has separate coverage and does not cover this route.

Add DS-A11Y-4 widget-test coverage for CurrencySelectorDialog using German
localization, a 320 dp viewport, and 2× text scaling, then assert
tester.takeException() is null after settling. Keep this coverage specific to

Add a German, 2× text, 320 dp test for the stablecoin filter section.

showOrderFilterDialog opens a MostroDialog through showMostroDialog. This change adds a header and a second Wrap inside that modal. DS-A11Y-4 requires a widget test at 2× text scale, 320 dp wide, in German that expects no overflow for a changed modal. The existing test/features/home/order_filter_dialog_test.dart does not provide that coverage. Its helper sets a 420 dp view, and no German-locale or text-scale case appears in the file.

Add a case that pumps the dialog with Locale('de'), TextScaler.linear(2), and a 320 dp wide view. Expect tester.takeException() to be null.
