Consumers migrating to specialized collections currently have to allocate a LinkedList when splitting strings. Add
string.splitToArray(delimiter)returningArrayList<string>, while retaining the existing split API.The new API preserves leading, repeated and trailing empty fields, advances by the complete delimiter, preserves null input and treats an empty delimiter as one unchanged field. The caller owns the returned list.
Validation:
grill typecheck --quietpassed;grill test StringUtilsTests --quietpassed 10/10 tests, including null input, empty fields and multi-character delimiters. The null-input regression failed before its fix. No compiler changes.
