ac-convention rule never auto-loads from the plugin (plugins have no rules/ component) #22

Closed

Description

@stid

rules/ac-convention.md (header) and rules/lcd.md ("Bundled rules") say the rule's paths: frontmatter makes it auto-load on specs and JOURNALs under docs/lcd/**. According to the Claude Code docs (plugins components and memory pages), plugins have no rules/ component: .claude/rules/ with paths: is a project/user-only feature. So under the plugin, the AC convention is only read when a skill explicitly opens it, never auto-loaded. This comes from the docs; it hasn't been tested empirically yet.

lcd-doctor.sh (around line 97, "B1 invariant") builds on the same assumption. It only requires the project-local override for a non-default artifact root, which implies the default root is covered by the plugin copy. Under the docs' reading, it isn't.

Fix options

  1. Have onboard always write .claude/rules/ac-convention.md, whatever the root, and make doctor check for it unconditionally. The vendored layout from feat: vendoring — freeze LCD into a project, update it safely (0.20.0) #20 already does this.
  2. Or correct the docs to say "read on demand", and make sure every skill that authors ACs opens the rule explicitly.

First step: confirm empirically. In a plugin-only project, open a docs/lcd/work/x/spec.md and check whether the rule shows up in context (/context or claude --debug).
