What

  • Add GitHub Actions for pull requests, pushes to main, weekly scheduled checks, and manual execution.
  • Automatically discover and test every Java feature version from 17 through the latest stable Temurin release.
  • Run the existing JUnit suite and fail if no tests are discovered.
  • Build the client JAR and test it through a separate consumer project.
  • Verify that the installed JAR loads and completes a signed request against a local HTTP server.
  • Document runtime coverage and local verification commands.

Why

INTST-1757 requires compatibility checks that run even when the library has no new commits.

The Java client had unit tests but no automated CI workflow. Scheduled checks against the latest stable runtime help expose compatibility problems before customers encounter them.

The package smoke check also verifies the built artifact independently of the development checkout.

Verification

Verification:

  • Local act and GitHub PR CI passed on Java 17–27: 11 runtime jobs.
  • All 113 unit tests passed per runtime.
  • Built-JAR verification through a separate consumer and local API request passed.
  • All 3 runtime-discovery tests passed.
The smoke check uses dummy credentials and a loopback server. No package was published.

Pending after merge

  • Verify the push-to-main run.
  • Verify manual execution through workflow_dispatch.
  • Confirm an actual weekly scheduled run.
