feat(modgraph): the build list of a go.work workspace - #56
A caller kept no module graph for a module that a go.work workspace uses. The go command builds such a module with the build list of the workspace, which no single go.mod holds. So a graph of one go.mod could miss an edge. vet keeps unknown · no graph for each Go finding of a workspace today, and vet itself is a workspace.
DiscoverOptions.Work names the go.work file. Discover then gives the build list of the workspace for the module in Dir:
The build list follows readModGraph of the go command in workspace mode:
The graph holds the requirements of each workspace module and of the go.mod of each such requirement.
A go.mod below go 1.17, a workspace module too, adds each go.mod down the chain.
Then the reload pass runs. While a module that the build needs requires a module below its selected version, the go.mod of the selected version joins the graph.
A requirement on a workspace module at a version reads the go.mod of that version. The build uses the code of the workspace.
Each other workspace module is a local source, read inside LocalRoot.
The replace directives of go.work win. Two workspace modules that replace one module with other code make Discover fail.
Vendor mode follows the go command:
the vendor directory sits next to go.work
go.work says go 1.14 or later
the first line of modules.txt holds the ## workspace annotation
Each listed module then comes from vendor. Outside a workspace, Discover reads no vendor directory of a workspace.
modules.txt is read as modload reads it: a module enters the list only from a header with package lines.
Discover fails when it cannot know the build list, because a wrong version can hide an edge. That happens when:
a go.mod that the graph needs is not on the disk
a workspace module is outside LocalRoot
a go.mod has an exclude directive
examples/modgraph gets a -work flag. docs/modgraph.md has a Workspaces section.
Verification
TestDiscoverGivesTheBuildListOfTheGoCommand serves synthetic modules from a proxy on the disk. It runs go mod download and go list -m all, and compares the result with Discover for workspaces where the versions of two modules differ. It needs no network.
TestBuildHoldsEachEdgeOfGoListInAWorkspace puts this repository in a workspace with a probe module. For each workspace module, it compares each version with go list -m all and each edge with go list -deps -test on four platforms.
A project in MODGRAPH_ORACLE_DIRS with a go.work gets the same check.

A Fable sub-agent reviewed the first commit against the modload source and ran the real go command on synthetic workspaces. It found six inputs with a wrong version or source:
the reload pass
a versioned requirement on a workspace module
a workspace module below go 1.17
the vendor mode rule
a local replacement in workspace vendor mode
a wildcard line of modules.txt
The second commit fixes each one, and the tests above fail on the first commit.

Next
The vet pull request passes the go.work that vet finds to Discover. A module that only the workspace adds, or another workspace module, then passes its imports on. On vet itself, the 12 Go findings that read unknown · no graph become imported. It is pushed on safedep/vet claude/go-work-graph, with safedep/code pinned to this branch.
A caller kept no module graph for a module of a go.work workspace. The go
command builds such a module with the build list of the workspace, which
no single go.mod holds, so a graph of one go.mod could miss an edge.
DiscoverOptions.Work names the go.work file. Discover then gives the
build list of the workspace: minimal version selection with module graph
pruning over the requirements of each module of the workspace. Each other
module of the workspace is a local source. The replace directives of
go.work win over those of the modules, and the vendor directory of the
workspace applies from go 1.22. Discover fails when it cannot know the
build list, because a wrong version can hide an edge.
The oracle test now checks a workspace of this repository and a probe
module, and a project of MODGRAPH_ORACLE_DIRS with a go.work. It compares
each version with go list -m all and each edge with go list -deps -test.

A review compared Discover with the go command and found six inputs that
gave a wrong version or a wrong source. A wrong version can hide an edge.
- The build list missed the reload pass of readModGraph. A module that
the build needs and that requires a module below its selected version
now loads the go.mod of the selected version, until nothing changes.
- A requirement on a workspace module at a version now reads the go.mod
of that version, as the go command does.
- A workspace module below go 1.17 now follows its requirements down the
chain.
- Vendor mode now follows the go command: a vendor directory next to
go.work, go 1.14 or later, and the workspace annotation of modules.txt.
In vendor mode each listed module comes from vendor. Outside a
workspace, Discover reads no vendor directory of a workspace.
- modules.txt is read as modload reads it. A wildcard replacement line
no longer clears the version of a module.
A new test serves synthetic modules from a proxy on the disk and
compares Discover with go list -m all for each case. The oracle no longer
skips on a Discover error other than a go.mod that is not on the disk.

Explanation
The title "feat(modgraph): the build list of a go.work workspace" matches the main change. The PR adds workspace build-list discovery to modgraph.Discover through a new DiscoverOptions.Work field, which reads go.work and workspace go.mod files (modgraph/workspace.go, modgraph/discover.go). The title is short, uses a conventional commit prefix, and names the scope (modgraph) and the feature (go.work workspace build list). It does not cover the vendor-mode, replacement, or example CLI (-work flag) changes, but the task says the title need not cover every detail.

A relative Work with relative use directives gave relative directories
of the workspace, while mainAt compared them with an absolute Dir. So
Discover refused a valid workspace, and the relative -work example of
examples/modgraph failed. A relative LocalRoot could mix the two forms
in the same way. Discover now makes Dir, Work and LocalRoot absolute
before it reads them.

* [FOU-586] Read the Go module graph of a go.mod from the code on the disk
A go.mod lists the modules of a build, but not which module imports
which. So each Go vulnerability finding of a module that the code does
not import stayed unknown with the cause no-graph. vet could not say
unused or imported via X, and could not prove not-called.
The codeusage enricher now builds the graph of each go.mod with
safedep/code modgraph. modgraph reads the import blocks of the Go files
of the main module and of each module of the build list in vendor, in a
local replacement inside the target or in the module cache. It runs no
go command and downloads nothing. The engine asks a new
plugin.Grapher for the graph of a manifest with none, during the
extraction, and stores it with the manifest.
A module with no source on the disk is open: it may import any module.
model.Graph keeps the open nodes, and the scan file stores them. The
reach rules read them: a path of known edges gives imported via X, a
path that only an open module gives is unknown with the cause
no-dependency-source, and no path is unused. One diagnostic counts the
open modules and says to run go mod download.
Scalibr lists the target of a replace directive in place of the module.
The go.mod extractor now records the module that it replaces, as
Package.Replaces. The code usage and the graph map a replaced module by
it, so its imports count.
vet builds no graph for a module that a go.work uses, or for a go.mod
below go 1.17. Its findings keep no-graph.

* [FOU-586] Take imports from the roots of the Go module graph
A review of the Go module graph found false unused results. The reach
rules took the imported packages from the code usage, which covers the
whole target and skips the build, target and dist directories. So a
module that only a skipped directory imports read as unused. A module
that only another go.mod of the target imports gave paths into this
go.mod. The standard library has no import path, so it read as unused.
The module graph of a go.mod now marks itself as a graph of imports, and
the scan file keeps the mark. For such a graph the reach rules take the
imported packages from its roots, which are the imports of the code of
that module. The standard library is always imported.
A reached module that maps to no package of the manifest hid its
imports, for example when two replace directives name one target. Now
that module gives no graph. vet also reads GOWORK as the go command
does.

* [FOU-586] Resolve links in GOWORK and refuse a relative GOWORK
A review found two inputs that gave a module graph for a module of a
workspace. vet compared a use path in the spelling of GOWORK with the
canonical scan root, so a GOWORK through a link never matched the module.
On macOS each target under /tmp or /var is such a link. vet also read a
relative GOWORK from its own directory, but the go command refuses a
relative GOWORK.
vet now resolves the links of both paths before it compares them. A
relative GOWORK counts as a workspace that holds the module, so the
module gets no graph. The docs say that vet does not read a GOWORK
that go env -w sets.

* [FOU-586] Find a go.work above the scan root and bump codeusage
The search for a go.work stopped at the scan root. The go command
searches each parent directory, so a scan of one module of a workspace
missed the workspace and built a graph from go.mod alone. That graph can
give a false unused. The search now goes up to the root of the file
system. A go.work outside the scan root is named by its full path.
The mapping of a replaced Go module changed the data of the codeusage
enricher, so its Version goes from 11 to 12.
