Stacked on #829 (work-days weekly pace). This branch contains #829's commits; review the commits after c4bc144df, or merge #829 first.

Summary

This ports upstream v0.70.0 ProviderPaceCapability reset-window pace. Providers that upstream opts in now show pace on their monthly (and other reset-scoped) windows, as the Mac does. For example, Copilot premium requests at 60% used, halfway through a 28-day cycle, now show "10% in deficit · Runs out in 9d 8h". Before this change, the code paced a window with no length against a 7-day fallback (UsagePace::weekly, usage_pace.rs:136–147). Such a row therefore had no pace for most of the cycle, and in the final week its pace was scored as weekly.

  • Typed capability, provider side (rust/src/core/pace_capability.rs, ProviderId::pace_capability())
    • PaceWindowRule and PaceDurationRule port upstream's resetWindowPace and inferredMonthlyDuration rules: unsupported, reset date present, window length present / missing, an exact length, or a custom fn predicate.

    • resolved_reset_window_for_pace ports resolvedResetWindowForPace. When the inferred-duration rule matches and the window has a reset, the window becomes the calendar month that ends at the reset: one month back in UTC, with the day clamped. A 30-day sentinel therefore scores against the real 28, 29, 30 or 31-day cycle.

    • reset_window_pace ports the card's resetWindowPaceDetail math. It needs a supported window and some quota left, resolves the window, then runs UsagePace::weekly(resolved, now, 10080, work_days).

    • Opt-in set, matching upstream's descriptors:

      Provider Reset-window rule Inferred month
Copilot reset date present window length missing
      Cursor window length present no
      Kimi exactly 10080 min no
Grok custom: the window reads as "Weekly" and the reset is inside the window no
Zai custom: the 43200-min "MCP" window same rule
Amp custom: has a length and the reset text starts with "renews in " no
Alibaba, Alibaba Token Plan, Command Code, Doubao, MiMo, StepFun, Notion, Ollama, OpenCode Go exactly 43200 min (sentinel) same rule

Every other provider is UNSUPPORTED, so its pace is unchanged.

    • The custom predicates live in their provider modules: grok::reset_window_pace_matches (with a port of Grok's primaryLabel(window:now:)), zai::is_monthly_mcp_window and zai::reset_window_pace_matches, and amp::reset_window_pace_matches, which reuses Amp's existing display::window_allows_pace. Shared code has no if provider == X branches.

  • Cursor (providers/cursor/api.rs): the plan lanes (total, auto and API) now carry the billing cycle's length, round((end − start) / 60) minutes, as upstream's CursorStatusProbe does. Before this change the lanes had no length, so they fell back to the 7-day window described above. This also changes Cursor's provider-level pace (tray colour). It used to have no pace until the cycle's last week, then scored that week as a weekly window. Now it scores the billing cycle, and cursor_plan_lanes_get_reset_window_pace_including_the_api_bar asserts that the provider pace is 50.0. The change stays inside the Cursor module.
  • Calendar-month helper fix (core/rate_window.rs): RateWindow::calendar_month_window_minutes returned None for a reset on the 29th–31st when the previous month is shorter. For example, Mar 31 tried to build Feb 31. It now clamps the day, as Foundation does. Providers that already call it get the right length on those days too.
  • Bridge (commands/bridge.rs, bridge/pace.rs)
    • The card lanes (primary, secondary, model-specific and tertiary) use the capability. Extra windows keep plain lane pace, as on the Mac, where resetWindowPaceDetail is applied to the primary, secondary and tertiary rows only.
    • WindowPaceSnapshot gains resetWindow: bool. It is serialized only when true, and older cached JSON without it reads as false.
    • The secondary reserve (reservePercent) comes from the same resolved pace.
    • The provider-level pace (tray colour) resolves a monthly sentinel to the real cycle, as upstream UsageStore.weeklyPace does. Like upstream, it still needs a window length, so Copilot's tray colour is unchanged (see open question 1).
    • from_fetch_result_at(.., now) takes a fixed clock for tests. from_fetch_result calls it with Utc::now().
  • Frontend (lib/metricRowModel.ts, types/bridge.ts): a pace marked resetWindow shows as weekly pace on any card lane (primary, secondary or tertiary), whatever the window's length. That is the Mac's weeklyPaceDetail. The upstream displayable check still applies (expected ≥ 3% or ETA 0). Extra lanes keep their exact-window rule.
  • CLI (cli/usage/render.rs): the JSON pace.primary / pace.secondary fields and the text Pace: lines use the capability when it applies, as CLIRenderer.computePace does. Every other window keeps the existing rule. lane_pace_at takes a fixed clock for tests.
  • Proof harness (proof_harness.rs): seeded lanes without a pace get it through the same WindowPaceSnapshot::for_lane call, using the seed's provider id. Proof runs therefore show the capability.

Proof

Real-window proof. A fresh debug build of f49f30587 (the proof dirs/reqwest shims were added to Cargo.toml for the build only and are not committed) ran in the isolated proof-kit home. It was seeded with synthetic Copilot, Cursor and Notion snapshots, all resetting 2026-11-01 00:00Z. Pace was computed by the app's own seed path (WindowPaceSnapshot::for_lane, the function the bridge uses). It was read back over CDP and captured with cua-driver at 2026-10-11 17:19Z. Every value matches an independent Python model of upstream's resolvedResetWindowForPace + UsagePace.weekly (predict.py): expected 34.59% on the Oct 1 → Nov 1 (44640 min) cycle.

Lane Seed Card text (app) Predicted
Copilot Premium 60%, no length 25% in deficit · Runs out in 7d 3h 25% deficit, ETA 617590 s → 7d 3h
Copilot Chat 20%, no length 15% in reserve · Lasts until reset 15% reserve, lasts
Cursor Total 30%, 44640 min 5% in reserve · Lasts until reset 5% reserve, lasts
Cursor Auto 50%, 44640 min 15% in deficit · Runs out in 10d 17h 15% deficit, ETA 926385 s → 10d 17h
Cursor model-specific (API) 10%, 44640 min 25% in reserve · Lasts until reset 25% reserve, lasts
Notion AI 40%, 43200 min sentinel 5% in deficit · Runs out in 16d 2h 5% deficit, ETA 1389578 s → 16d 2h*

Notion keeps windowMinutes: 43200 on the bridge, but its pace has expectedUsedPercent 34.587 (the 31-day month). The raw 30-day window would give 35.74%. Every lane has resetWindow: true. The predictor floors seconds; the card's existing ETA formatter rounds up to whole minutes (metricRowModel.ts:140), so 23159.55 min → 386 h → 16d 2h.

The seed path fills lane pace only, so cached_providers.json shows provider-level pace: null for every provider. Bridge tests cover the provider-level pace with literal values: notion_sentinel_window_is_scored_against_the_real_month (50.0, not 53.33) and cursor_plan_lanes_get_reset_window_pace_including_the_api_bar (50.0).

The exe was built at f49f30587. The one later commit, d784e31ec, only adds a fixed-clock seam and a test to the CLI renderer, so it doesn't affect the desktop app.

Open questions (default chosen)

  1. Copilot's provider-level (tray colour) pace is unchanged. Upstream UsageStore.weeklyPace returns nil when windowMinutes is nil, and Copilot windows have no length. This PR doesn't resolve a window with no length for the provider-level pace, so Copilot keeps its existing Windows behaviour: the 7-day fallback, which gives pace only in the cycle's last week. Only the card rows and the CLI get Copilot's reset-window pace. Default: leave the existing tray behaviour. Matching upstream exactly (no tray pace) would be a separate change.
  2. The Zai predicate probably never fires on Windows. It matches the 43200-minute window whose reset text is "MCP". The Windows Zai module emits its MCP window without a length, so nothing matches. The predicate is ported literally. Default: leave it; changing the Zai window shape would be a separate Zai change.
  3. No CLI tertiary pace. Upstream's CLI computes pace for the tertiary lane too. The Windows CLI has no tertiary pace line at all, so this port doesn't add one. Default: keep the scope to the existing primary and secondary pace output.
  4. Upstream's "standard lane" pace rules aren't ported. ProviderPaceCapability also carries the primary, secondary and tertiary lane kinds, sessionPaceWindowRule, allowsEstimatedUsage and showsHeadroomHint. Windows keeps its own lane policy (LANE_POLICY) for these. Only the reset-window part is ported here. Default: separate port.
  5. Grok's label rule is used only by the pace predicate. Grok's primaryLabel(window:now:) with the reset-time fallback is ported as a private helper for the predicate. The Windows Grok label shown in the UI is unchanged. Default: keep the label untouched.
  6. The dashboard (codexbar serve) pace is unchanged. It only paces Claude account rows, and Claude is not opted in.
  7. Notion's row is labelled "30-Day" but is scored against the calendar month. The label comes from the existing window-length label for the 43200-minute sentinel, which this PR doesn't change. Default: leave the label; label parity is out of scope.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Usage pacing now reflects provider-specific reset cycles, including monthly windows even when providers do not report a window length.
    • Desktop and CLI usage views can show pace estimates and ETAs for supported reset windows, with work-day settings applied where configured.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved billing-cycle lengths for usage windows, and corrected month-end date handling for shorter months and leap years.
    • Pace estimates are withheld for supported reset windows with less than 3% expected usage; unsupported windows retain existing fallback behavior.

This change adds provider-specific reset-window pace calculations, calendar-month duration resolution, and lane-aware pace selection. CLI output and desktop snapshots use the new calculations, with desktop display logic distinguishing reset-window pace from other pace values.

Changes

Provider reset-window pacing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Provider pace capability and window resolution
rust/src/core/*, rust/src/providers/{amp,cursor,grok,zai}/*
The core adds provider rules for reset-window pace and calendar-month duration resolution. Provider helpers classify supported windows, and Cursor plan windows now include billing-cycle lengths when available. Calendar-month subtraction clamps dates in shorter months.
CLI pace selection and rendering
rust/src/cli/usage/*
JSON and text rendering select provider reset-window pace when supported. Existing lane-specific weekly fallbacks remain, and reset-window pace requires at least 3% expected usage. Tests cover monthly cycles, thresholds, and unsupported providers.
Desktop snapshots and pace display
apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/bridge*, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/proof_harness.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src/lib/metricRowModel*, apps/desktop-tauri/src/types/bridge.ts
Desktop snapshot and proof-seed construction select pace by provider and lane. Snapshots expose a defaulted resetWindow field, and the display model classifies reset-window pace for card lanes while preserving extra-lane rules.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

The change adds cross-provider branching in shared code. rust/src/core/provider.rs:545-581 adds ProviderId::pace_capability() with a match on specific providers such as Copilot, Cursor, Grok, Zai, Amp, and several monthly providers. rust/src/core/provider.rs is outside both allowed locations: rust/src/providers/<name>/ and rust/src/core/provider_factory.rs. The inspected diff shows no provider identity, account label, or email leakage, but this shared ProviderId dispatch independently matches the explicit failure condition.

Resolution

Remove the provider-specific ProviderId match from rust/src/core/provider.rs. Keep each capability declaration in its provider module, or place the dispatch in the permitted rust/src/core/provider_factory.rs, and have shared pacing code consume provider-owned capability data without matching specific ProviderId values outside the permitted locations.

On the "Provider Data Stays Siloed" pre-merge check: keeping ProviderId::pace_capability as is. It is a per-provider metadata table, the same pattern as ProviderId::cookie_domain and ProviderId::blocking_quota_window_id (Kimi, ported from upstream 0.69.0 in 67ec2aa). AGENTS.md names ProviderId metadata methods as the place for this. Shared pacing code does not branch on provider: it reads the typed ProviderPaceCapability, and the rules that need provider knowledge live in providers/grok, providers/zai and providers/amp (reset_window_pace_matches, is_monthly_mcp_window). Moving the table into provider_factory.rs would only relocate it. It mirrors upstream ProviderDescriptor.pace (v0.70.0). Provider data (identity, plan, email) is not touched.
