What & why

Use Workspace.Read.All for workspace and Open Mirroring database browsing so these read-only operations do not depend on write permission being available on the first-party Microsoft Entra app.

Request Workspace.ReadWrite.All only for Add to workspace. If token acquisition fails, show manual instructions to grant the service principal Contributor access directly in Fabric, with a Read setup instructions action. Preserve the underlying authentication error in the error details. Once write permission is granted, the action can work without another app change.

The custom-app .default authentication flow is unchanged.

How I validated this

  • I read the full diff and it contains only changes I intended.
  • I built the affected app(s) locally with no new analyzer warnings.
  • I ran the change in Business Central and confirmed it behaves as expected.
  • I added or updated tests for the new behavior, or explained below why none are needed.

What I tested and the outcome (required — be specific: scenarios, commands, screenshots for UI changes)

  • git diff --check origin/main...HEAD: passed.
  • Reviewed the full two-file diff and verified that browsing requests read-only access while workspace role assignment explicitly requests write access.
  • No tests added: this is a small scope-selection and error-guidance change, without production hooks added solely for testing. Existing tests are unchanged.
  • AL build and AL tests were not run locally, following the existing user-validation workflow. This PR is draft pending build and Business Central validation.

Risk & compatibility

No schema, data-upgrade, or export-pipeline changes. Custom-app authentication remains unchanged. Add to workspace still requires write permission and an appropriate Fabric workspace role; direct setup in Fabric is the fallback until those requirements are met. Live Microsoft Entra consent and Business Central behavior still require validation.

Restore the existing tests and keep only the separate workspace scopes and manual-setup guidance.

Try Workspace.Read.All then Workspace.ReadWrite.All for lookups. Keep writes limited to Workspace.ReadWrite.All and leave third-party authentication and token caching unchanged.
