Searching for a writer's name only ever surfaced their posts; nothing in the widget led to the author's own profile page. A new opt-in option, showAuthorProfiles, adds matching authors as profile links. The author list comes from Ghost's search index endpoint (/ghost/api/content/search-index/authors/), the same one Ghost's built-in search uses. The Content API key and admin URL are read from Ghost's search script tag before the widget removes it, so Code Injection installs need no extra config; ghostContentApiKey and ghostUrl override them. The list is fetched lazily on first open, once per page, and cached in sessionStorage per admin URL. A failed load leaves the section out without retrying. Matching is a word-prefix match, case- and accent-insensitive, from two characters, capped at three authors. Modal: an Authors group above the results that joins arrow-key/Enter navigation. Palette: an Authors group above Posts (Enter opens, Cmd/Ctrl+Enter opens a new tab), honouring showGroupLabels. Discovery: a Tab-reachable strip above the results, and byline names link to fetched profiles. Profile links are not reported as result clicks. The option defaults to false and the default markup is unchanged. The playground gains a toggle backed by a mock author index endpoint.

palette’s results state, updating it when `renderEmpty()` or the
results-rendering method accepts a query. In `renderAuthorProfiles()`, repaint
only when results are showing, the query is non-empty, and `currentQuery`
matches the query for the rendered model.

profile URLs, and apply it in matchAuthorProfiles and the other author profile
lookup path so cached and freshly fetched profiles are both filtered before
rendering links. Do not apply this check to profile_image; keep
normalizeAuthorProfile’s image handling unchanged.

…114) Only http(s) profile URLs are rendered. Attribute escaping does not stop a javascript: URL from running when the link is followed, so authors with any other scheme are dropped from both the fetched list and the sessionStorage copy. The palette now tracks the query its results were rendered for. When Ghost's author list arrived while a newer query was still in flight, the repaint paired that query's authors with the previous post rows and cleared the "Searching…" status; it now waits for the pending results, which render with the list anyway.

What
New opt-in
showAuthorProfiles. When the query matches a contributor's name, matching authors (avatar + name) link to their Ghost profile page.GET {adminUrl}/ghost/api/content/search-index/authors/?key=…, the endpoint Ghost's own search uses. It returnsurl, so custom routes are respected. No schema change and no reindex.data-key/data-sodo-searchare read from Ghost's search script tag, at load and again right beforecleanupGhostSearch()removes it. This covers bothsodoSearch__urland Code Injection installs. OptionalghostContentApiKey/ghostUrloverride them.sessionStorage(only successful loads). A failure is not retried on that page and leaves post results untouched.showGroupLabels.authorsGroupLabel. Initial-letter fallback whenprofile_imageis null. Why
Ghost's built-in search lists matching authors with links to their profiles; sites that switched to this widget lost that. The index stores author names only, so the URL has to come from Ghost. Indexing slugs would mean a reindex of every collection, and Ghost has no author webhooks to keep a separate collection fresh.
Verification
npx vitest runpasses (260 tests: newauthors.test.jswith 25 andauthors-init.test.jswith 3, plus palette/discovery additions). Lint is clean, build succeeds.mp-search-authors:<origin>, and the sodo tag removed./author/jannis/.document.currentScriptpath, where the widget's own tag carries the key. jsdom can't simulate it; the query-selector path is covered.[Unreleased]entry added.Summary by CodeRabbit
