### JBang support for running Jython (September 2026)

Until very recently, Jython releases had to be downloaded and installed locally before they could be used. A JBang wrapper for Jython is now available that allows Jython scripts to be executed without first installing Jython.

* jbang run jython@jython
* jbang run jython-latest@jython
* jbang run jython-release@jython

Jython can also be installed as a local application using the following command:

* jbang install app jython@jython

### Jython 2.7.5 beta (v2.7.5b1 August 2026)

A beta release is now available for Jython 2.7.5 at [Maven Central](https://search.maven.org/search?q=g:org.python).
