Cursor overlaps label text instead of value on ITEM_RANGE edit #397
When editing a menu item created with ITEM_RANGE or ITEM_RANGE_REF, and the label exceeds >13 characters on a 16×2 character display, the cursor is placed over the label instead of the value. This causes the value (e.g., a number or percentage) to be hidden or overwritten during editing.
This makes it hard or impossible to see what value is currently being edited.
Steps to reproduce:
Use a 16×2 character display
Create a menu item using ITEM_RANGE or ITEM_RANGE_REF with a label longer than 13 characters
Compile and upload
Navigate to the item and enter edit mode
Cursor appears on the label, not the value → value not visible
Expected behavior:
The cursor should appear on the value field, and the value should remain fully visible when the item is in edit mode. Either the label should be truncated or the view shifted accordingly.
Version: 5.12.1
Version
I have checked that I am using the latest version of the library.
Reproduced on 5.12.1: for labels longer than 13 characters on the default 16×2 renderer, unsigned width arithmetic can hide the value and leave the edit cursor on the label.
The correction is already included in commit e311e03, merged through #423 and present in tag 5.13.0.
Regression PR #436 covers ITEM_RANGE and ITEM_RANGE_REF with long labels, value-width changes, and cancellation. The tests fail on 5.12.1 and pass on current master. Uno and ESP32-S3 compile checks also passed; physical LCD behavior has not been tested.
Please upgrade to 5.13.0 or later. Closing as completed because the production fix is already available. If the problem persists on your ESP32-S3/display after upgrading, please reply with a minimal sketch and the exact version so we can investigate further.
