bin: generate YAML configuration from CLI options - #12353
Fluent Bit command-line pipelines cannot currently be exported as reusable YAML configuration. Reconstructing configurations by hand is error-prone, especially with repeated inputs, filters, outputs, and scoped plugin properties.
Changes
add -G / --generate-config to emit YAML to stdout and exit
preserve service settings, customs, repeated pipeline components, scoped properties, tags, matches, external plugins, and stream processor tasks
quote YAML keys and values and escape control characters
reject command-line state that cannot be represented portably (--config, --workdir, and startup trace options)
add runtime-shell and Python integration coverage, including executing a generated pipeline
-Y remains unchanged as the hot-reload option. The new short option is -G. Existing runtime behavior is unchanged unless generation is explicitly requested.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added --generate-config (-G) to output command-line configuration as YAML without starting Fluent Bit. Generated files include supported service settings, plugins, and pipeline components, with strings safely quoted and repeated plugin properties preserved.
Generation rejects incompatible options and reports YAML-generation or output failures with a nonzero exit status.
Tests
Added coverage for generated configuration, option validation, special-character handling, and running generated pipelines.
The --generate-config (-G) option serializes supported command-line configuration as YAML and exits without normal startup. It rejects specified incompatible options and preserves explicitly selected log levels. New tests cover generated content, error handling, and execution of generated YAML.
Changes: CLI Configuration Generation

Summary
YAML serialization src/fluent-bit.c
Writers escape YAML strings and serialize properties, section lists, stream processor tasks, and supported configuration sections.
CLI option and generation path src/fluent-bit.c
The CLI registers --generate-config and -G, tracks explicit log levels and startup trace options, rejects incompatible options, and generates YAML before normal startup.
Generation tests and registration tests/integration/scenarios/cli_config_generation/tests/test_cli_config_generation.py, tests/runtime_shell/CMakeLists.txt, tests/runtime_shell/generate_config.sh
Tests check generated settings, quoting, rejected options, write failures, supervisor bypass, and execution of generated YAML. The shell test is registered on non-Windows platforms.

Static-configuration builds may start normally instead of generating YAML, and YAML-disabled Unix builds may fail the new test. Address those build-specific paths before merging.

Escape Unicode line breaks when quoting YAML strings
When a CLI property contains an embedded U+0085 (NEXT LINE), this branch emits its UTF-8 bytes literally inside the quoted scalar. Libyaml treats that character as a line break and folds it into a space, so loading the generated configuration silently changes the property value. For example, before<U+0085>after round-trips as before after, which can change filter rules or emitted data. Escape this character as \u0085 rather than writing it literally.

Flush generated output before checking for write errors
When stdout is redirected to a full filesystem or /dev/full, a small generated configuration remains in the stdio buffer, so ferror(stream) is still false here. The actual write fails during process-exit flushing, after the success return code has already been selected. Consequently, generation reports success even though the configuration was not saved. Flush the stream and check the flush result before returning success.

Flush generated YAML before reporting success.
When stdout is buffered, a short configuration can pass ferror(stream) even if the eventual write fails. For example, redirected output to a full device can produce no configuration while -G exits successfully. Call fflush(stream) and check its result before returning success.

Handle -G in static-configuration builds.
When FLB_HAVE_STATIC_CONF is defined, the option-parsing loop excludes this case. The help text still advertises -G, but generate_config remains false and the program continues to normal startup. Parse and handle -G in that build, or reject it explicitly before startup.

Register this test only when YAML support is available.
If a Unix build sets FLB_CONFIG_YAML=Off, CTest still registers generate_config.sh. The script then asks Fluent Bit to parse the generated YAML, so the test fails on that supported build. Add the test to UNIT_TESTS_SH only when FLB_HAVE_LIBYAML is set, as the Windows YAML tests already do. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

The four error paths all use the CLI failure contract (EXIT_FAILURE), but result.returncode != 0 also accepts a crash or another nonzero status after the expected diagnostic. Assert the platform-appropriate EXIT_FAILURE value for each case. Do not hard-code a numeric value if the test runs on platforms where that value differs.
