docs(agents): the current date and time is an agent context switch, off for new agents (FA-528) - #286
Time awareness becomes an agent setting under a new context section (context.current_time, the Current date & time toggle in the Builder). It is off for new agents, on for agents created before the switch existed, and it is the only switch for phone calls. A session request's context.current_time overrides it in either direction; world_context / worldContext stay as deprecated aliases.
Configuration page: new "Context" section with "Current date and time", the section in the config JSON example and the sections table.
Time & timezone: intro and "Turn it on or off" rewritten for the switch, examples use context.current_time and the SDK's context: { currentTime }.
Authenticated sessions and Web SDK: the context parameter rows, with the alias noted.
Simulation tests: context.current_time, and the section explains it is independent of the agent's switch.
Dynamic variables: the "Current date and time" section and its anchors.
…override (FA-528)
conversation.world_context on the configuration page, the agent-level and
per-session switches on the time and timezone page, and the session and
web SDK parameter tables.

The documentation now describes context.current_time, its defaults, and agent-wide and per-session controls. The OpenAPI document adds schemas for LLM endpoint errors, message fallback reasons, and custom endpoint headers.

The guides describe context.current_time, its defaults, when date and time are injected, and the availability of system variables.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to c7ea6
The new time-awareness docs may describe a Simulation request field that the published API does not yet accept, and the session schema still advertises a default that conflicts with the described omission behavior. Confirm the companion API is deployed, or hold the docs, before merging.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the main change: the current date and time is an agent context switch (context.current_time), off by default for new agents. The raw summary confirms the docs add the switch, its default, and its per-session override. The title is concise, specific, and follows the docs(agents) convention. It also includes a ticket reference, which is acceptable. The title does not mention the per-session override or the deprecated world_context alias, but these are secondary details.

| `timezone` | string, optional | IANA timezone (like `Asia/Tokyo`) for the agent's sense of local time. Invalid names are rejected with `422`. See [Time & timezone](/agents/build/time-timezone). |
| `client_timezone` | string, optional | The end user's device timezone as an IANA name. A hint, not a demand: it applies only when neither `timezone` nor the agent's configured timezone is set, and invalid values are ignored. The SDK fills it automatically in public-agent mode. From your backend, forward the value from your client. See the [resolution order](/agents/build/time-timezone). |
| `world_context` | boolean, optional | Whether the agent knows the current date and time. Default `true`; set `false` to withhold both from this session. |
| `world_context` | boolean, optional | Whether the agent knows the current date and time. Omit it to follow the agent's [time awareness setting](/agents/build/configuration#time-awareness) (on by default). `false` withholds both from this session, `true` injects them even when the agent has them off. |
Remove the world_context default from the session-creation schema.
The guide says that omitting world_context follows the agent's time-awareness setting, and that setting can be false. The schema for the session-creation request in api-reference/openapi.json (around line 18701) declares "default": true. A client generator or API explorer that applies schema defaults can send true explicitly. That overrides an agent that has time awareness turned off.
The agent default is also true, so the mismatch only changes behavior for agents with the setting turned off. Fix the default in the platform API schema source. This file is synced from the live API, so a manual edit here may be overwritten. The prose in this table already describes the intended behavior.

…or new agents (FA-528)
A context section parallel to guardrails holds the facts the platform tells
the agent on its own. New agents start with the current time off, agents
created before the switch keep it on. Session requests override it with
context.current_time, world_context stays as a deprecated alias.

A live session does not always receive the date and time: the revised configuration guide says context.current_time is off for new agents. Change this sentence to describe live sessions with the setting on. Otherwise, readers may enable time in a simulation to match a live agent that does not have it.

Update the live-session comparison in the time-and-timezone explanation to
specify that date and time are available only when the current-time setting is
enabled. Avoid implying that every live session receives them, and preserve the
existing description of simulation defaults and `{{system.today}}`.

Update the Simulation API contract before replacing world_context.
AgentTestSimulationConfig currently accepts world_context, not context, and rejects additional properties. Users who copy context.current_time into a Simulation request can receive a validation error.
Update the API schema and request handling to accept context.current_time before publishing this documentation change. Otherwise, keep world_context in the table.
