309-361: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winAdd a controlled clock and compare the two timestamps.
The two-turn test checks only that both messages contain a time note. A regression that reuses the first timestamp would pass. Advance a controlled clock between turns and assert that the second note changes.

Thanks @riddhigupta1110, the approach is right: the time now sits on the latest user message, so the system prompt stays byte-stable, and I checked that only run_turn builds this prompt, so no surface loses the clock. Tasks and proactivity build their own prompts with the time already.
A few things before it can merge. main moved a lot today, and the diff looks like a merge went sideways:
- Duplicate import in
sentient/agent/loop.py: the PR addsfrom sentient.tools.base import Risk, Tool, ToolContext, bind_call, describe_call, effective_riskabove the existing multi-linefrom sentient.tools.base import (UNPROMPTED_ORIGINS, Risk, ...). Please drop the added line and keep the existing one. - A docstring line from #200 got removed in the module docstring of
loop.py("the final reply carries its memory sources ..."). Keep that sentence; only drop "clock" from the list. - Please merge the latest
maininto your branch and re-runpytestandruff check sentient tests packaging(CI's lint includespackaging). - In
test_system_prompt_does_not_depend_on_current_time, please use the demo persona"Maya"instead of a real name (we keep real names out of the repo).
I approved the CI runs for your branch, so you'll see the full checks from now on. Happy to help if the merge gets tricky.

Hi @riddhigupta1110, just checking in. |
|
Hi! Thanks for reviewing and offering help. I have an exam coming up, so I probably won’t be able to get to the fixes until Tuesday. If you could merge "main" into my branch in the meantime, that’d be really helpful. I’ll pick it up from there and make the changes you suggested. |
|
Good luck with your exam @riddhigupta1110! I merged |

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Handle an unresolved timezone before formatting the time note.
If config.assistant.timezone names an unknown zone, resolve_tz returns None. datetime.now(None) then uses local time, and the model receives a note labeled (None). Use an explicit fallback timezone or report the configuration error before adding the note. As per coding guidelines, “Models are roles the user controls” and “Each turn the system prompt carries … the clock”; the model-facing clock must identify its timezone.

Record the prompt-architecture change in an ADR.
docs/ARCHITECTURE.md requires each system prompt to carry the clock. This change moves the clock to the user message, which reverses that documented architecture decision. AGENTS.md and ADR 0001 require a new ADR when a documented architecture decision changes.

Thanks @riddhigupta1110, nice work, and thanks for finishing it before your exam! All four points from the last review are fixed. I also tested the change for real on Claude through Claude Code, with turns a few minutes apart:
- The system prompt stays byte-identical, so the cached part is reused: 9,464 cached tokens on the second turn, against 8,396 on main, where the clock line changes the prompt.
- The model still answers the date and time correctly.
- Memory recall still works from a new chat.
On qwen3:8b the prompt is stable too, and it now answers the date from the note instead of making an extra tool call.
One thing blocks merging: 6 tests fail on this branch and pass on main. CI didn't catch it because the run on your last push was cancelled before it started. These tests came in with the main merge and still expect the user message without the time note:
tests/channels/test_whatsapp.py:317and:429tests/test_claude_code.py:182tests/test_screen_share.py:93(both cases) and:107
The fix is the same as you did in test_telegram.py: check that the note is there and that the message ends with the user text. Where a test reads blocks by position, look for the text or image block by type instead of by index, because the image is now at [2]. Please run the whole suite with pytest before pushing, not just the files you changed.
Two small things while you're there:
docs/ARCHITECTURE.md:165still says the system prompt carries the clock. Please change it to say the clock goes with the latest user message.- The
timezoneparameter ofbuild_system_promptis no longer used. You can remove it along with the argument inloop.py, or leave it for a follow-up.
After that I'm happy to merge.

Approved after a real end-to-end test.

Merged, thanks @riddhigupta1110! I tested your final version for real: two chat turns on Claude a minute apart kept the system prompt byte-identical across the clock change, so the second turn reused 9,464 cached tokens. Both the date and the time answers were correct. CI is green on Ubuntu and Windows. Thanks for seeing it through, and good luck with the exam! |
What and why
Removes the dynamic current time from the system prompt to keep it stable across turns and improve prompt-cache reuse.
Adds the current time to the latest model-facing user message while preserving stored user messages and multimodal attachments.
