It does look broken, yes. I don't get a 'FILE NOT FOUND' error, but instead I get the CP/M-65 startup banner and a blinking drive status light. It doesn't move off track 18 so it might be failing to load the fastloader binary.
Yea the yload1541 filename needs a & as the first character. With that the OS loads and I can get a directory on drive a: in vice and on the commodore 64 ultimate.
I just checked this on Vice and it works there as well with a & added to the start of the filename. I submitted a pull request to fix this in the build. (#262)
Thank you --- although it's a bit weird; how did this ever work before? I did test this. Sadly the mametests don't work on the C64 or vic20 so there's no way to test automatically.

Sorry, I should have clarified: I get the blinking drive light too, but if I drop into the ML monitor and type
@I see the FILE NOT FOUND error.quincy451 commentedon Dec 28, 2025
Yea I ran into the same behavior of startup banner then hang...but I was on one of the new commadore utlimate machines.

this resolved the issue for me:
cd ~/src/cpm65/images
cp -v c64.d64 c64_fix.d64
rename inside the image (quote so bash doesn't treat & specially)
c1541 c64_fix.d64 -rename yload1541 '&yload1541' -dir | grep -i yload
