📋 Changes

Adds the My Account API to Auth0Web, so web apps get the same self-service MFA management that Android and iOS already have.

New public API (auth0_flutter)

  • Auth0Web.myAccount({required String accessToken}) returns a new MyAccountWeb.
  • MyAccountWeb has the same 11 methods and parameters as the mobile MyAccountApi, so app code can be shared:
    • getAuthenticationMethods({type}), getAuthenticationMethod({id}), updateAuthenticationMethod({id, name, preferredAuthenticationMethod}), deleteAuthenticationMethod({id}), getFactors()
    • enrollPhone, enrollEmail, enrollTotp, enrollPush, enrollRecoveryCode
    • verifyOtp({id, authSession, otp, factorType}), confirmEnrollment({id, authSession, factorType})
  • Newly exported from auth0_flutter_web.dart: MyAccountWeb, AuthenticationMethod, AuthenticationMethodType, EnrollmentChallenge, Factor, MyAccountException.
  • Failures are thrown as MyAccountException, the same type as on mobile:
    • API errors carry statusCode, title and detail.
    • Fetch failures use code: network_error with isNetworkError: true.

Platform interface (auth0_flutter_platform_interface)

  • 12 new myAccount* methods on Auth0FlutterWebPlatform. They throw UnimplementedError by default, so this only adds API.

Implementation

  • Backed by the auth0-spa-js MyAccountApiClient.
  • A client is created per call with createFetcher({ getAccessToken }) returning the caller's token, rather than using Auth0Client.myAccount (which always fetches its own token).
  • DPoP follows the Auth0Web(useDPoP:) setting, with nonce id __auth0_my_account_api__.
  • The enrollment-verify location is rebuilt from the method id.
  • The TOTP fields are mapped the same way as on Android and iOS: manual_input_code → totpSecret, barcode_uri → totpUri/barcodeUri.
  • If the loaded auth0-spa-js doesn't have MyAccountApiClient, calls throw a clear MyAccountException asking for v2.21.1+, instead of a misleading network error.

Docs

  • EXAMPLES.md: new "My Account on the Web" section, with the heading changed to 🌐📱. It covers:
    • getting a token
    • DPoP: the My Account API must allow DPoP on the tenant
    • SPA-only browser refresh tokens
  • README.md: auth0-spa-js ≥ 2.21.1 note, a Web features entry, and an API reference entry.
  • Doc comments: removed "Web is not supported" from the mobile docs.
  • README fix: the mobile verifyOtp/confirmEnrollment examples now include the required factorType.

🎯 Testing

Unit tests

  • auth0_flutter: 175 browser tests (+35) and 168 VM tests (+15), all passing.
    • test/web/my_account_web_test.dart: MyAccountWeb passes the token and arguments to the platform.
    • test/web/my_account_plugin_test.dart: plugin tests with a fake proxy. They check the exact spa-js params, the location rebuild, null stripping and every error path. Proxy tests run against a stubbed window.auth0: the caller's token, dpopNonceId only when DPoP is on, and the old-spa-js check.
    • test/web/extensions/my_account_extensions_test.dart: URL helpers, result mapping and error mapping.
  • auth0_flutter_platform_interface: 12 new "unimplemented" tests.
  • Mocks: auth0_flutter_web_test.mocks.dart is unchanged. It's excluded from generation by build.yaml, so the new plugin tests use a hand-written fake instead.
  • Analyzer: reports no new issues in either package.

Manual end-to-end (Chrome, auth0-spa-js 2.24.0, a real tenant)

  • ✅ All 11 methods.
  • ✅ Every factor through enroll → confirm: TOTP, SMS, email, push (Guardian) and recovery code.
  • ✅ Error cases:
    • a malformed id gives 400
    • an unknown id gives 404
    • an expired token gives 401
    • offline gives network_error with isNetworkError: true
  • ✅ DPoP mode with a DPoP-bound /me/ token.
  • ✅ A DPoP client holding a Bearer /me/ token gets a 401 "Missing or invalid DPoP cnf". That's documented as a tenant setup requirement.

To try it:

  1. Get a token for the https://{domain}/me/ audience with the *:me:* scopes, either at login or via getApiCredentials with an SPA app and MRRT.
  2. Call auth0Web.myAccount(accessToken: token).getAuthenticationMethods().

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added My Account API support for web, including viewing, updating, and deleting authentication methods.
    • Web apps can now view available factors and enroll phone, email, TOTP, push, and recovery-code authentication. OTP verification and enrollment confirmation are also supported.
    • Added support for DPoP-protected requests and clearer error details for web API operations.
  • Documentation
    • Updated setup guidance and examples for web, including token requirements, supported Auth0 SPA JS versions, and enrollment steps.

Add Auth0Web.myAccount(accessToken:) returning MyAccountWeb, with the same
11 methods as the mobile MyAccountApi, backed by the auth0-spa-js
MyAccountApiClient (requires auth0-spa-js 2.21.1+). Errors are thrown as
MyAccountException. Adds the matching Auth0FlutterWebPlatform methods,
tests, and EXAMPLES/README docs.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 44de4

A malformed timestamp can discard a successful response, and an enrollment can fail at verification if its returned location differs from the reconstructed URL. Preserve the challenge location before merging.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 44de4

The new operations affect account security, but the implementation keeps requests tied to the configured tenant and each call’s supplied token. No introduced authorization bypass was established. Actual request authorization and recovery from interrupted enrollment remain partly dependent on external behavior that could not be verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The intended authority is self-service MFA management for the subject authorized by the supplied token at the configured tenant, including factor deletion and access to enrollment secrets. A compromised browser application with such a token could invoke these capabilities. Actual maximum subject and asset scope depends on downstream scope and ownership enforcement, which was not verified.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The browser tests establish argument, token-callback and configuration forwarding using stand-ins. They do not establish emitted Authorization/DPoP headers or rejection of cross-subject method IDs. The reviewed local path does not establish an authorization bypass.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Caller-supplied tokens, method IDs and enrollment inputs cross from Dart into the JavaScript client. Local controls retain the configured tenant base and isolate each call’s token; token validity, audience, scopes, subject ownership and DPoP proof enforcement remain downstream responsibilities rather than local validation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Per-call token capture avoids token-overwrite races in this adapter. Enrollment remains a caller-coordinated multi-step process, however, and local error handling cannot establish atomicity, idempotency or cleanup after server acceptance followed by response loss, interruption or repeated requests.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Use DateTime.tryParse for API timestamps so a bad date does not discard a valid result.

DateTime.parse throws FormatException when a timestamp is malformed. _myAccountCall then turns that error into MyAccountException.unknown, and the caller loses the whole result even though the API call succeeded.

Use the challenge-returned location for enrollment verification.

auth0-spa-js returns the enrollment location from the HTTP Location header and sends verification to ${location}/verify. This code discards that field and rebuilds the URL from id. The SDK contract does not guarantee that both locations are equal. When they differ, a valid enrollment can fail because verification targets the wrong endpoint.

Preserve challenge.location in the enrollment result and pass it through the verification API to this call. Do not reconstruct it from id.
