Release: read the Mac build host from remote-slot - #262
Conversation
An APPLE_BUILD_HOST=haiku-50 override made this Makefile build on the user's Mac instead of haiku-7. Off GitHub Actions the lane now stops naming the override, so every Apple goal forwards to haiku-7 through remote-slot. Agent-Session: b9d88027-560a-4ba9-b763-31ed8b5fd17a
The user permits a haiku-50 build by hand when needed, so the Makefile no longer refuses the override. haiku-7 stays the default; the agent guidance that steered lanes to haiku-50 is fixed at its owner instead. Agent-Session: b9d88027-560a-4ba9-b763-31ed8b5fd17a
…ng it The Makefile and README named a private fleet machine in this public repository. The Makefile now reads the build host from the dotfiles host tool remote-slot, which every host that forwards a lane already needs; GitHub Actions still runs lanes in place. Reference the Makefile instead of duplicating its behavior.
This paragraph restates the host-selection and forwarding contract owned by mobile/Makefile. Replace those mechanics with a reference to the Makefile to prevent the documentation from drifting.
As per coding guidelines, “docs […] must bind/import/project the canonical owner instead of restating it (No Mirrors).”

Skip remote-slot lookup when a host override is supplied
When an alternate Mac runs locally with make -C mobile <lane> APPLE_BUILD_HOST="$(hostname -s)", GNU Make still eagerly expands the right-hand side of this := assignment even though the command-line value takes precedence. If remote-slot apple-host is unavailable or unconfigured on that Mac, parsing therefore fails before the hostname check, breaking the supported manual override and even unsigned local lanes that do not otherwise need remote-slot; guard the lookup based on the variable's origin or use an assignment that does not evaluate the default when overridden.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
GNU make expands a := right-hand side even when a command-line value overrides it, so a manual APPLE_BUILD_HOST run still failed on a host without remote-slot. The lookup now runs only when no command-line value and no GitHub Actions run names the host, and its error says how to fix a missing or outdated remote-slot.
