tui: add Vim cw and cc change commands - #497
DawnofGenX wants to merge 3 commits into
Conversation
Add c as a pending key in the Vim mode controller. cw deletes the word forward and enters insert mode; cc clears the current line's text (keeping the line) and enters insert mode. c followed by any other key cancels without editing, matching how d behaves. Add LineEditor.clearCurrentLine for the cc case. Add tests for all three behaviors. Fixes Observal#425 Signed-off-by: Priyansh <pkansara0412@gmail.com>

`VimMode` to delete only the current word and preserve the following separator;
adjust `deleteWordForward` to support this behavior and call it with that option
from the `cw` path. Update the corresponding test to expect the leading space
before the next word to remain.

cursor is on punctuation within a non-blank punctuation sequence, change only
that punctuation run without consuming the following word; retain the fallback

…uation Navigation keys left a pending c/d/f in place, so `c`, Left, `w` changed a word instead of moving. Any key that does not continue the operator now clears it, including navigation, enter/tab and redo. `cw` on a punctuation character fell back to `dw` and ate the following word (foo.bar -> foobaz). `cw` is `ce`: it now stops at the end of the run under the cursor, so a punctuation run is changed on its own.

Both CodeRabbit findings addressed in 0518990.
Evidence: both tests fail on the pre-fix sources (2 failed / 9 passed) and pass with them; the full TUI suite is 289 passed. |

Disclosing per AI_POLICY.md ("Name the AI tool and model or version in the pull request"): this change, its tests and the description above were prepared with an AI coding agent — Hermes Agent (Nous Research) running the deepseek-v4-flash model. The agent drafted the diff and ran the verification quoted above. Purpose
The TUI's optional Vim mode (toggle with
/vim) supporteddwandddbut not their "change" versionscwandcc, which delete and then switch to insert mode.Fixes
Fixes #425
Approach
In
packages/tui/src/vim-mode.ts, addcas a pending key following the existingd/fpattern:cwdeletes the word forward (editor.deleteWordForward()) then enters insert mode.ccclears the current line's text and enters insert mode. Unlikedd(which removes the whole line including its newline),cckeeps an empty line to type on, so it uses a newLineEditor.clearCurrentLine()that removes only the line's text and leaves the cursor at its start.cfollowed by any other key cancels without editing, matching howdbehaves today. No compatibility or security impact; the change is confined to the Vim command layer and one new editor method.
How was this tested?
pnpm --filter @axl/tui test— 286 pass, 0 fail.cwdeletes forward one word and leaves insert mode;ccempties the current line, keeps the other lines, and leaves insert mode;c+ another key cancels without editing.vim-mode.ts/editor.tschanges makes thecwandcctests fail (2 fail); restoring them makes all pass.pnpm --filter @axl/tui typecheckclean;biome checkon the three changed files clean.Learning
cccould not reusedeleteCurrentLine()because that removes the newline too; a dedicatedclearCurrentLine()(kill from lineStart to lineEnd) is the minimal correct primitive.Checklist
