Added Timestral, a forecasting model that supports multiple targets, numerical and categorical features, and quantile-based predictions.
Choose from four model sizes, with options to use pretrained weights or initialize without downloading them.
Adds Timestral, a multivariate quantile-forecasting model with four checkpoint sizes. The model supports pretrained or offline initialization, numerical and categorical covariates, cached context, symmetric averaging, and optional nonnegative clipping.
Changes: Timestral forecasting
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Model contract and initialization sdm/models/timestral/model.py
Defines the supported model sizes and forecast capabilities. Loads pretrained or offline configurations and remaps upstream checkpoint parameters before strict state-dict loading.
Forecasting and covariates sdm/models/timestral/model.py
Adds the default recipe and forecast path. Handles cached context, masks non-finite target observations, prepares numerical and categorical covariates, and returns forecasts at configured quantiles.
The new Timestral model can return a different output dtype depending on whether the query is empty, but only when inputs are not float32. This is a small inconsistency that is easy to fix before or shortly after merge, and it is unlikely to break typical usage.

Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 4 functions across 1 files.
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

184-193: Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Use one output dtype for the empty and non-empty forecast paths.
If the query is empty, the code calls y_context.numerical.new_empty(...) at Line 186. That result has the input dtype, for example float64.
If the query is not empty, Line 193 casts y with .float(). decoder._forecast_raw then returns float32.
As a result, the same model call returns different dtypes depending on the query length.
Ensemble stacking in sp.AverageEstimators can mix these results. Downstream consumers then see a dtype change based on input size.
The path instructions require that tensor dtype be preserved. The fix is to cast the forecast back to the input dtype before you build the TableTensor.
Proposed fix
y = y_context.numerical.transpose(-2, -1)
+ dtype = y.dtype
batch = y.shape[:-2]
y = y.reshape(-1, *y.shape[-2:]).float()
@@
- out = out.transpose(-3, -2).reshape(*batch, horizon, len(columns))+ # [B, T, H, Q] -> [..., H, T * Q]+ out = out.transpose(-3, -2).reshape(*batch, horizon, len(columns))+ out = out.to(dtype)
return TableTensor.from_tensor(out, columns=columns)
As per path instructions: "preserve tensor device and dtype".

Review comment at @sdm/models/timestral/model.py around lines 184 - 193:
Update the non-empty forecast path in the enclosing model method to preserve the
input dtype: capture the dtype of y_context.numerical before the .float()
conversion, then cast the reshaped forecast back to that dtype before
constructing its TableTensor. Keep the empty-query path’s existing input-dtype
behavior.
