What changed in this PR
Adds Native AOT and trimming support through static-context APIs, a source generator, updated tests, documentation, and CI coverage.
Changes:
- Adds the static-context generator and analyzer.
- Adds AOT-aware JSON serialization APIs and annotations.
- Migrates tests and CI to generated contexts and Native AOT validation.
- Removes the obsolete samples application.

159-166: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winDocument the public-field compatibility change.
YamlDotNet's default reflection builders expose public fields.
SystemTextJsonTypeInspectornow rejects those fields unless they have[JsonInclude].YamlConverterandAddSystemTextJson()use this inspector for serialization and deserialization, so existing models with public fields can lose those values from YAML and stop binding those YAML keys. The README documents other System.Text.Json attributes and trimming guidance, but it does not state this rule. Add that public fields require
[JsonInclude], and record this breaking behavior in the release notes. If trimming leaves a descriptor available while
FindMostDerivedMembercannot recover itsFieldInfo, the field check is bypassed and the descriptor may be included. Keep the documented behavior independent of this metadata-dependent path.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

The README recommends the package that this PR had to replace.
Line 78 tells users to install Vecc.YamlDotNet.Analyzers.StaticGenerator. According to tools/YamlDotNet.Analyzers.StaticGenerator/README.md, the generator is vendored because the published package does not yet include the nested-type-name fix. The test fixtures depend on that fix (for example, FixtureModels.Enums.TestEnum). Users who follow Line 78 and register nested types can get generated code that does not compile.
Add a note that nested model types need a package version that includes the fix. Alternatively, state the minimum package version once it is released.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
The new SerializeJson overload breaks existing callers that pass a null literal.
The new overload puts StaticContext context in the same position as JsonSerializerOptions? jsonSerializerOptions in the existing overload. Both parameter types accept null. So an existing call like YamlConverter.SerializeJson(json, null, sortAlphabetically: true) becomes ambiguous and fails with CS0121. StaticContextApiTests Line 13 already needs a (StaticContext)null! cast to compile.
The API has not shipped yet, so you can still remove the overlap. Two options:
- Give the new overload a distinct name.
- Move
contextto a position where it does not overlap withjsonSerializerOptions.
For example:
public static string SerializeJson(string json, JsonSerializerOptions? jsonSerializerOptions, StaticContext context, bool sortAlphabetically = false, ...)🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

official Microsoft .NET Native AOT documentation PublishAot restore --no-restore runtime pack
💡 Result:
Microsoft’s Native AOT docs say to enable AOT with `<PublishAot>true</PublishAot>` and publish using `dotnet publish`. The `dotnet publish --no-restore` option skips the implicit NuGet restore. ([github.com](https://github.com/dotnet/docs/blob/main/docs/core/whats-new/dotnet-8/runtime.md?utm_source=openai))
**Implication:** if you use `--no-restore`, restore must already have resolved the packages needed for the AOT publish—including any target-specific runtime/toolchain packs. If you change the target RID or AOT settings after restoring, run `dotnet restore` again before publishing. The docs explain the restore switch, but don’t specifically promise that a prior restore contains every Native AOT runtime pack for every setup. ([github.com](https://github.com/dotnet/docs/blob/main/docs/core/tools/dotnet-publish.md?utm_source=openai))

.NET SDK Native AOT PublishAot restore assets file Microsoft.NETCore.App.Runtime.AOT Microsoft.DotNet.ILCompiler
💡 Result:
If you’re asking why `project.assets.json` contains Native AOT entries: setting `<PublishAot>true</PublishAot>` enables AOT publishing, and publishing for a RID (such as `linux-x64`) restores the target-specific compiler and runtime assets. ([learn.microsoft.com](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/deploying/native-aot/index?utm_source=openai))
The package names depend on the .NET version:
- **.NET 9 and earlier:** the runtime-specific compiler package is commonly named `runtime.<rid>.Microsoft.DotNet.ILCompiler`.
- **.NET 10+:** the AOT runtime assets use `Microsoft.NETCore.App.Runtime.NativeAOT.<rid>`; `Microsoft.DotNet.ILCompiler` still supplies compiler components. The .NET distribution docs distinguish these package roles and versions. ([learn.microsoft.com](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/distribution-packaging?utm_source=openai))
So seeing `Microsoft.DotNet.ILCompiler` and a NativeAOT runtime pack in the restore assets is expected; they are not necessarily duplicate app dependencies. Restore with the same target RID and properties used for publish—for example, `dotnet restore -r win-x64`, then `dotnet publish -r win-x64 --no-restore`. ([learn.microsoft.com](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/deploying/native-aot/index?utm_source=openai))
The exact interpretation depends on your SDK version, RID, and the relevant `project.assets.json` entries; the query doesn’t include those details.

Restore with the Aot configuration before publishing with --no-restore.
The current restore does not set PublishAot, so the SDK skips the Microsoft.DotNet.ILCompiler pack. The later publish cannot restore it because it uses --no-restore, and Native AOT publishing can fail before compilation. The xUnit package does not supply this compiler pack. Its UseAppHost=true setting remains active during an Aot restore, so the required apphost pack is preserved.

Review comment at
@tests/YamlDotNet.System.Text.Json.Tests/YamlDotNet.System.Text.Json.Tests.csproj
around lines 11 - 13:
Update the restore command for the test project to use the Aot configuration
before publishing with --no-restore, so restore includes the Native AOT compiler
pack. Keep the existing linux-x64 runtime identifier and apphost behavior
unchanged.
