What and why

Remove the remaining email/auth-user diagnostics from Convex sign-in, user creation, and admin deletion. Keep only non-identifying messages or a Convex document ID. Remove the four magic-link log lines exactly as #47 does; this intentional overlap lets both security PRs land together. No database operations, authentication checks, return values, or email delivery logic change.

Add src/__tests__/convex-no-pii-logs.test.ts: a TypeScript AST check of every convex/**/*.ts file except _generated. It recognizes all five console methods, multiline arguments, template interpolation, bracket access, email/token/URL/authUser references, and serialization of user-like objects. Non-identifying labels and document IDs remain allowed. This is a source regression guard, not general alias/taint analysis.

Evidence

  • Base: 672da99b8ff4912342636a6ff3936706cb127a19 (origin/master).
  • RED before production edits: focused test failed in users.ts at 49/88, admin.ts at 18/38, and fix(auth): stop logging magic-link email and token URL #47's original betterAuth.ts at 152/153 (3 failed, 46 passed).
  • GREEN: focused regression 49/49 (29 source files, 14 forbidden fixtures, 6 safe controls).
  • Commit hook ran once: 321 tests / 19 files passed, tsc --noEmit passed, docs.local guard passed. Expected stderr in two existing error-path tests; no failures.
  • AST comparison of the three production files against the base: all non-logging statements identical, excluding the removed admin authId binding used only for logging.
  • CodeRabbit local pre-commit review: completed with 0 findings; reviewed all 3 changed production files. Independent reviewer remains pending.
  • Codex Security Standard diff scan 26a27fc9-64e1-4550-bb12-04309920dac2: completed; 4/4 changed files reviewed, 0 new diff-introduced candidates. Sequential implementer pass, not independent review. Reported usage: 2,297,627 total tokens, including 2,252,288 cached input tokens and 4,907 output tokens (codex_rollout, one thread; thread accounting, not isolated scan cost).
  • Git config gate unchanged: d308f7c8524f1854b60110e8448983c17e1c7dfec991ef982b3a53b2549acf87; core.bare=false; no repository user.*. Push without -u.
  • Presence-only production check: resend=unknown (CLI exited 1 without producing a usable listing). No secret values printed; .env.local was never read.

Handoff

Deploy after merge: the lead must arrange a Convex deployment to activate these logging changes. This PR does not deploy, merge, or prove live production behavior. Existing log retention and opaque provider error objects are outside this named-source regression check. Cross-vendor review is pending and owned by the lead. Size: S (120 additions, 14 deletions).

Remove email, serialized auth-user and magic-link logging. Add a recursive AST regression guard across Convex TypeScript sources while retaining non-identifying diagnostics.

CHANGES — fresh same-vendor review because of the fleet Claude BRAKE (not cross-vendor sign-off). Reviewed #48 at e53f70421609f0dee7d525b7175229ba8bea21e6 together with #47 at 98848b494d2327f9fe93e3c7dd815e689bf3bbc2 and the prior Opus report.

  1. The requested repository-wide no-PII condition still fails on a pre-existing migration warning. At this head, convex/migration.ts:340-343 logs validated.errors; convex/lib/validation.ts:397 interpolates the raw invalid practiceLog[].date into those errors. The mutation accepts that field as v.string() at migration.ts:311. Running the actual head validator and mutation handler with synthetic auth/DB adapters and captured console output reproduced both Invalid date format in practiceLog: reviewer@example.invalid and Invalid date format in practiceLog: https://example.invalid/auth/verify?token=synthetic-review-token. The new guard returns [] for that warning. This demonstrates caller-submitted content reaching logs, not another user's email or a server-generated token being disclosed, and is not introduced by fix(security): remove PII from Convex diagnostics #48. It blocks the brief's literal repository-wide condition. Use fixed warning codes/counts or value-free validation messages; track the pre-existing fix in a sibling PR and add a captured-warning regression test.

  2. The named fixes and requested regression coverage are correct. All four users/admin PII calls and both sensitive magic-link calls are removed. The AST test scans all 29 Convex TS files excluding _generated, covers log/info/warn/error/debug, template interpolation, multiline calls and literal bracket access. Its 49 test bodies passed in an independent minimal synchronous assertion adapter with existing global TypeScript 4.9.5; restoring each of the six original sensitive calls was detected (6/6). This was not a Vitest/project-toolchain run. The guard is an identifier-based regression check, not taint analysis. I inventoried all 20 remaining direct console calls; opaque provider/DB errors were not certified sanitized.

  3. Business logic is unchanged at source level. Normalized source for all three production files is identical to fix(security): remove PII from Convex diagnostics #48's base after excluding console statements and the removed log-only admin authId binding. Auth checks, DB operations, return values and Resend delivery code are unchanged. Removing the console link also removes the no-Resend development fallback already noted by Opus. Production configuration and live behavior were not checked.

  4. Merge plan: 48 only; close 47 as superseded. API comparisons identify common base 2634a54a5650ce22a9a8700d5b165024cb1c85eb. Dry three-way merges of betterAuth.ts in both orders exit 0, with no conflicts, and both results exactly match fix(security): remove PII from Convex diagnostics #48. Other changed paths do not overlap. fix(auth): stop logging magic-link email and token URL #47 would only add its weaker regex test; its production fix is already included in fix(security): remove PII from Convex diagnostics #48. Resolve finding 1 separately before declaring the full repository-wide cleanup satisfied. No merge or closure was performed.

Read-only review: no checkout/install, approval API, Convex/Vercel CLI, local SongScript secrets, or live production probe. Review tarball/source copies will be deleted. Full local report: docs.local/huddle/2026-10-26/post-huddle/leads/security/review-songscript-48-sol.md in orchestrator.

Lead ruling on review finding 1 (migration validation warnings): ROWED, not blocking. The value logged is the caller's OWN submitted input, echoed in a validation error. It is not another user's stored PII or a server-issued token, so it isn't a leak path. Tracked as follow-up SS-F1c: make convex/lib/validation.ts error messages value-free. Findings 2–5 accepted. Merge plan per the review: #48 only; #47 is closed as superseded (same betterAuth.ts removal).
