Why the change

A PersonaBot with dangerous full access could not use its Bot Browser or the Computer: full access turns approval cards off, but these two tools still waited for one, so every call was refused and the Bot told the Human to "re-enable approvals".

Closes #1622 · Claim: #1622 (comment) · Agent task claude/local/325fe4fd-4f0c-48e5-8b24-87aeaffb9839 · Found in the long-run validation (#1593)

Special things to note

  • Merge risk: two-way door (revert the one commit). Blast radius: only the Browser and Computer branches of the tools/pre-execute hook, and only for Sessions that already have full access (an Assignment whose snapshot is danger-full-access, or the Orchestrator when the preset scope is chat; Orchestrator subagents are excluded, as before). Review focus: full access now also authorizes the Bot Browser, which is logged in to the Human's accounts, without a card. Browser Access off for a Bot and a changed Browser or Computer target still refuse the call. At the Human's request, full access now means no approval cards at all: secret_cli and secret_mcp_connect also skip their per-call card for a full-access Session (second commit; ADR-0193 amended, ADR-0191 and ADR-0195 point to it). This reverses part of ADR-0193 and lets a full-access Bot hand stored Owner secrets to a program without a card, so it deserves explicit review. ask_user_question and ask_secret are unchanged. Credential-store refusal and the sandbox-escalation refusal still apply.
  • Verification:
    • Automated: two new tests in packages/core/test/grant-execution.test.ts (full-access detection; the Browser/Computer authorization decision), red before the change and green after; grant-execution and assignment-access tests 21/21; pnpm typecheck, pnpm lint, pnpm format:check pass. The full Vitest suite was not run locally.
    • Runtime: isolated DSH 0.2.0-rc.2 Profile from this branch with a real model. Default mode: asking the Bot to open example.com produced a browser_open approval card. After switching the same Bot to full access (scope chat), the same request opened the page with no new card and the Bot replied Example Domain.
    • Not covered: the Computer path was only covered by the unit test, not a runtime run.
    • Not covered: the secret-tool change has no new automated test (the hook branch is a one-line condition) and was not run against a stored secret. Full packages/core suite: 2101/2102 passed; the one failure (bot-contact-discovery timing) passes on its own and touches no code in this branch.

Change outline

tools/pre-execute
before: Computer/Browser branch → needsAuthorization? → approval card (rejected under approval "never")
  after: Computer/Browser branch → needsAuthorization?
full access → markAuthorized(session, scope) → run (scope changed → deny)
            otherwise → approval card, unchanged
  generic branch: same full-access check, now shared through sessionHasFullAccess();
secret_cli / secret_mcp_connect no longer exempt from it

New helpers in packages/core/src/workspaces/grant-execution.ts: sessionHasFullAccess and deviceToolAuthorization. No UI change.

…card

A Session with dangerous full access never shows approval cards, but the
Browser and Computer branches of the pre-execute hook still requested one,
so every call was refused. They now grant the session-level authorization
when the Session has full access; other Sessions keep the approval card.

📝 Walkthrough

The pre-execution authorization path now recognizes full-access sessions for Browser and Computer tools. These sessions can proceed without an approval card when tool authorization succeeds. Sessions requiring approval retain the existing flow. Authorization changes during marking deny the call with a retry message. Tests and a bilingual changelog entry were added.

Changes: Device-tool authorization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Full-access and device authorization rules
packages/core/src/workspaces/grant-execution.ts, packages/core/test/grant-execution.test.ts
Adds full-access session detection and device-tool authorization decisions. Tests cover session types, authorization scopes, and changed authorization state.
Browser and Computer authorization integration
packages/core/src/plugin.ts, changes/1622-full-access-browser.md
Browser and Computer calls proceed when authorization succeeds, are denied with a retry message when authorization changes, and otherwise continue through the existing approval flow. The changelog describes this behavior in English and Chinese.

Full-access sessions can now use Browser and Computer without an approval card. However, if an owner later switches the session back to default mode, it can keep using these tools without approval. Clear or distinguish automatic grants before merging.

Invalidate automatic device authorization when full access ends.

When a chat-scoped preset changes from full access to default mode, deviceToolAuthorization can still return authorized if the provider retains its grant. Browser grants are keyed only by session ID. Computer grants are keyed by session ID and tool scope, not by the full-access state. The access-preset setter does not notify either provider to clear these grants.

Preserve Human-approved grants, but clear or distinguish grants created solely by full access when the preset changes.

Full access now means no approval cards at all. secret_cli and
secret_mcp_connect skip their per-call card for a Session with full
access; the Bot can still ask the Human a question or for a secret.
ADR-0193 is amended and ADR-0191 and ADR-0195 point to it.
