Not sure how to report a site that leads to malware downloads? #34945
|
If you visit https://betterfox[.]org in a browser with no ad-blocking extensions active, any click on the page then opens random websites that lead to various random EXE downloads. Uploading them to virustotal[.]com confirms many are malware. ℹ Replace [.] with just . in the example URL, of course; it's formatted that-way to prevent accidental clicks. Currently uBO stops the website pop-ups from occurring, but might be better to just block the site entirely? I'd assume this is the "Online Malicious URL Blocklist", but seems you have to create an account there to report it? 😢 Examples of the websites that site may take you to:

If uBO already blocks the popups, there's no need to block the whole site, unless there are other malicious activities even when uBO on. The ads and popups of this site is just similar to thousands of other sites. Do we have to block nearly all of the internet? |

Closing as "wont-fix", uBO working as intended for that site. (Bit confusing for us users to know what the intended behaviour is, of course: if a website has a massive "click here to download a virus" graphic with a link, if uBO blocks just that image is that job-done, or would it be better to block the entire site, if its sole-purpose seems to only exist to serve a virus. Answer here from an admin is "we just block the download link", so I guess that's that, but you can see from a user perspective why we might think the latter.) |
