Wanted features #806

Description

@cvanelteren

Hi all,

I think UltraPlot has reached a mature stage where it is stable. This means I have had some time to reflect on what I would like this package to be moving forward. I wanted to check in with users to see if there are features that I am missing or they want to see implemented.

I think one of the major hurdles is that the codebase is rather large and new users may be intimidated with contributing to the codebase. This is completely understandable and I don't really know how to tackle this beyond saying: just try it.

Since coding itself has gone through a major revision in the last years, stuff that would usually be greatly appreciated now seems rather trivial with agents. Specifically, I think some of the mechanics of the codebase feels rather verbose, and could be written in a more comprehensible way. But if this moves through an agent then it does not really matter as humans rarely touch it.

As such, I think it is better to look at capabilities over form. UltraPlot can be used to produce pretty plots through its defaults, and in part by its ergonomics (although due the former point not sure how strong that is in 2026). I am therefore asking for input on where this package could go, what features are missing, and what you would like to see come 2027.
